It’s a pajama party! Third graders in Mrs. Crowder and Mrs. Jones’ classes were rewarded with PJ day on Friday for achieving their Class Dojo points for second quarter! Class Dojo is a reward based system that students and their teachers use to set goals, build excitement by working hard to achieve them, and then are rewarded for their hard work! They get to select a reward from preset incentives in the Class Dojo app, and PJ party was the popular vote!. Keep up the great work, third grade!

Fourth grade STEM students are using technology to complete their book shares for Language Arts. After completing a book, students are asked to share what they read with their Language Arts class. They share the title, author, setting, plot and details that made the book either interesting, or not so interesting. Typically, they share these in front of their peers, but this time they are recording their book share in front of a green screen! Green screens are often used on TV in news reports or sitcoms where background changes are necessary, without changing the entire set. STEM, taught by Mrs. Jenni Blair, is the study of science, technology, engineering, and math. Students at WL-S begin learning the correlation between these concepts and virtually every other school subject beginning in kindergarten. Keep up the good work!

As eBooks become more popular due to ease of access, we are still teaching the value of a library! Students are learning how to navigate the shelves with a scavenger hunt type of activity. This week, they are learning how to find fiction titles. These exercises apply to any library, just not WL-S! #lifelessons #loveyourlibrary

100 days smarter! 100 days brighter! First graders starred in the annual 100 days of school fashion show. Students are tasked with decorating a shirt with 100 objects. They glue, sew, paint, and pin everything from feathers to buttons, stickers and pom poms. They get really creative! There is never a winner of the fashion show. It’s just a chance to showcase their creativity to their peers, teachers and administrators. They did a fantastic job!

WOW! THANK YOU to everyone who helped elementary students donate to American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge! We raised an unbelievable $20,000 for the second year in a row, surpassing their original goal of $15,000. Kids Heart Challenge, formerly Hoops for Hearts, is a program designed to teach our students about people with special hearts, while raising money for healthy hearts everywhere. During the Kids Heart Challenge students are taught the risks of using tobacco, heart conditions, tips for eating healthy, being physically active and managing stress. They are given tools to make decisions that leave them feeling confident in improving and maintaining their own health, while also helping improve the study and treatment of kids and adults with heart disease.. We are thrilled to know that our students, their families, community, and our staff will make an impact with such an exceptional donation. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! If you’d like to learn more about healthy living. Kids Heart Challenge website is full of resources that will encourage your family to adapt to a healthIer lifestyle. Ask your student what they learned about making their hearts happy and healthy! This year’s Top 12 donors are: 1. Izzy Semaan 2. Solly Warye 3. Ayden Henson 4. Calvin Cotrell 5. Shiloh Cole 6. Mason Wallace 7. Deagan Wallace 8. Thaddeus Cole 9. Winnie Cotrell 10. Olivia Waibel 11. Kingsley Brentlinger 12.
