First graders are learning about living versus non living creatures during their unit in life cycles. This week, Mrs. Patton's class examined the meal worm and recorded their observations related to movement, stimulation, and more! They reviewed the life cycle of a meal worm and discovered that as the worm grows they transition into beetles. That was both exciting to some and creepy to others! In Mrs. Stayrook's class, they compared living earthworms to gummy worms. They made discoveries about how their observations indicate whether the worm was living or non-living. The earthworms were very wiggly and certainly made a clear contrast agains the non living gummy worm! Next, they measured both the earthworm and gummy worm and discussed what earthworms need to survive. This creepy, crawly lab was a lot of fun! Stay tuned as they continue their life cycle unit waiting for their incubator eggs to hatch into baby chicks!

Testing for high school students begins on Thursday. Here are a couple of important things to remember as your students begin their final testing/exam schedules. If your student is in English 10, Biology and American Government, they will take their end-of-course exam on Thursday, April 20th and Friday, April 21st. The entire high school will then follow a 2-hour delay schedule after testing. VERY few students will not have testing and need to report to school by the start of first period at 9:40 on these two days. Non-tested students who ride the bus or are dropped off at the normal time will report to study hall.
Freshmen in Physical Science will have planned activities the mornings of April 20 and 21 and must report to school at 7:40am.
Again, very few students will get to observe a 2-hour delay as close to all freshmen will be here for physical science or biology testing, all sophomores for English II, and all Juniors for American Government.

Please help us congratulate this week's Educator of the Week Mr. Aaron Lauck!

WEB leaders spent a beautiful spring afternoon with the residents of Vancrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. They played beach ball, bubbles, and spent time visiting in the courtyard.
WEB, an acronym for the phrase 'Where everyone belongs', is a student group
made up of 8th graders who want to take on the leadership role of welcoming 6th graders to middle school and preparing them for the year ahead. They also help new students adjust to their schedules and student life, while taking on other service related projects.
This year they are venturing off campus for the first time. Principal Andy McGill said that the partnership
with Vancrest has offered a valuable opportunity for students to serve in their communities and take on new leadership experiences. WEB crew will visit Vancrest one more time before the conclusion of the school year.
