Second graders in Mrs. Dallas and Mrs. Cordell’s classes learned about different types of force from our high school Edison State Physics students today. Owen Johnson, senior, demonstrated how to create a paper boat that floats on water. Students blew through straws to create a push force that made the boats move. They also used bouncey balls to demonstrate the use of pushing and pulling. Our students did a great job listening and following directions and were able to tell what types of force were used in the experiment. Hands on learning is the best!

We will feature local job and career opportunities where on-the-job training is the norm. These jobs may or may not require short-term training, such as apprenticeships and/or certifications.
The jobs highlighted provide a good level of income for those who are ready to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.
Today’s WORKFORCE Business of the Day is: RELIANT MECHANICAL

Job/Career Titles: HVAC installers/technicians, plumbers, pipe-fitters, and pipe welders

Hello WL-S families,
COVID cases across the state are decreasing and many areas of the state are no longer seeing high spread of the virus. In response to this, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is no longer requiring a mask mandate for busses and vans operated by a public school district as of February 25, 2022. The Champaign County Health Department has confirmed this change and we have received word that we no longer have to wear masks. This change will begin today, February 28th. For more information you may go to this website; https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/masks/mask-travel-guidance.html or read the paragraph below.
Effective February 25, 2022, CDC is exercising its enforcement discretion to not require that people wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs. CDC is making this change to align with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 Community Level.
Thank you,
Kraig Hissong
Superintendent

Elementary loves reading, and we are teaming up to share the love of books with a book exchange on Wednesday, March 2nd. This is a great opportunity for students to trade in a book they already read for another book that interests them!
HOW IT WORKS:
Students may bring in one gently used book they have already read to exchange for a different book. The reading level should be within the age range of your student (grades PK-1, 2-3, 4-5) Only students that bring a book will participate in the swap.
Please have your book for the exchange here at school by Tuesday, March 1st. Search those closets and bookshelves and together let’s encourage a love for reading!

We meet every Wednesday after school to learn through activities, videos, and playing each other in real games of chess. The club instructors include seniors that lead the high school chess club, Brandon LaRoche and Holden Schafer.
Students can still join for the next few weeks. (Uness they already have some experience playing chess and know the basics.). The club meets every Wednesday from 4-5:15 in the elementary art room. See attached flyer for more details.
