We hosted our second annual graduate luncheon welcoming back the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022. It was wonderful to connect with so many alumni and hear about school, work, and just life in general. We provided Cane’s Chicken and high school staff members graciously donated the sides and desserts. Special thanks to our counseling office and Mr. Johnson for organizing.

Driving a sleigh and driving a bus are two totally different things, but this guy was willing to give it a try! Jake Vitt, driver of bus number 10, has been temporarily replaced by none other than Mr. Claus!

Kindergarten and first grade had time today! They made crafts, played so many games, had a hot chocolate or snack bar, and just had fun!

Party time! 5th graders in Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Orahood’s classes are making ornaments, having a few sweet treats, and playing games!

Mr. Matt Westfall and Mr. Aaron Hollar delivered Christmas gifts to 41 children from 10 different families today. Mr. Westfall, elementary counselor, has helped lead this endeavor for more than 15 years. Planning usually begins around October organizing fundraising and families in need, and with the help of several community members, churches and local businesses, shoppers begin to fulfill the wishlists. They are able to provide more than 5 truck, car and van loads of games, toys, clothes, blankets and personal need items, while also supporting families with gift cards for gas, groceries and experiences. Thank you to the following donors who helped make this possible:
Calculus Club
HS Girls Track and Field-Ann Vogel
United Church of Christ
South Union Mennonite
One Church: West Liberty (Tim Wilcox)
Kennard Nazerine (Molly Perdue)

The Middle School Talent Show was so entertaining this morning! Connor Leichty and Zoe Carter emceed the event interacting with the crowd, telling jokes and playing trivia between acts. Teachers got involved by participating in a wrapping paper contest and Oreo eating contest (Pictured is Mr. Spencer claiming victory. The winner of this year’s talent show was Abigail Fredrick, who sang and played her guitar, while second place went to Ellis Koons. Congratulations and thank you all for sharing your talents with us this morning!

Our fourth graders celebrated their ‘Good Apple’ award recipients today! Good apples are recognized for completing all of their work, not using any ‘travels’ for forgotten or missing items, and good behavior. We are proud that so many students achieved Good Apple Status this time around! Congratulations, kiddos!

Family and Consumer Sciences made breakfast this morning. Can you guess who may have inspired the pancake art? None other than Andy Cotrell, high school math teacher. They were pretty accurate!

Mrs. Perdue’s elementary library was a winter wrapping wonderland this week! Student helpers wrapped our preschoolers’ Santa Shop gifts before their Christmas party! Many thanks to our student elves for the help!

Our first graders celebrated Grinch day with cookie decorating and watching ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’.
“And what happened, then? Well, in Whoville they say – that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day. And then – the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of ten Grinches, plus two!” -Dr. Seuss

We know this week looks like we’ve been having too much fun, but we are still learning, and more importantly, our students haven’t checked out yet! A group of students showed up at 7 AM just to study for Mr. Cotrell’s Algebra test! Keep up the great work!

There is one last chance for last minute gift shopping tomorrow morning at Santa Shop. We had a wonderful week, and our PTO thanks you for making it extra special for your student shoppers! EXTRA SPECIAL THANK YOU to our PTO Volunteers who do all of the shopping, help shoppers make their selections, set up, tear down and tidy up! We appreciate you!!

Emery Longaberger and Malia Miller take a swing at the piñata during their Spanish 1 Christmas celebration. They are spending the week learning about and experiencing what a traditional Christmas would like like in Mexico!

SANTA! I know him!

Little Dribblers will perform during halftime of both high school girls’ games tonight, December 20th. JV game begins at 6 PM! Go Tigers!

Eckhart Tolle once said, “When a dog looks at you, the dog is not thinking what kind of a person you are. The dog is not judging you.” Maybe that’s why dogs make the best therapy pets! Duke, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Support Dog, made his rounds today visiting students and classes. In the elementary, he made himself at home around the “campfire”, and in middle school and high school received lots of love sitting with students while they studied. Duke, who is part of the Lapp family, will make regular visits for the rest of the school year.

Everything is better in your pajamas! Our MS/HS students are looking cozy and festive today!

WL-S is representing on the Team Champ High School Swim Team! The team is made up of swimmers from local county schools that compete against other HS swim teams. They practice as one team at the Champaign Family YMCA, but they represent their individual home schools when competing. Pictured are Peyton Hull and Kam Hissong both competing in the 50 freestyle from this weekend’s meet. Way to go, Tigers!
