Congratulations to Rosemary and Dahlia Sokolow, who continue to make West Liberty-Salem proud on the national weightlifting stage!
In June 2025, both sisters competed at the Youth National Championships in Colorado Springs — the largest event of its kind in the U.S. and Canada!
🔥 Rosemary (13 & under) hit personal bests in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk, finishing 10th in the nation in her first-ever national competition!
🔥 Dahlia (15 & under) also set new personal records, finishing 6th in the nation and qualifying for the American Final Championships in Daytona Beach this December!
Then, in August, the girls kept the momentum going at the Ohio State Championships —
🥈 Rosemary earned 2nd place in the 13 & under division with another personal best,
🥇 while Dahlia took 1st place in the 15 & under group, setting three new state records in the 69kg weight class! 💪
These Tigers are showing the power of dedication, strength, and determination — both on and off the platform! 🧡🐅🖤

Ms. Henry joined Mrs. Spring’s first graders for a special lesson on kind and unkind words. She used a tube of toothpaste to show how easy it is to let words slip out — but once they’re out, you can’t put them back in!
Our first graders loved this hands-on reminder that kindness counts and that our words have power. ❤️✨

West Liberty-Salem sophomore Delaney Borders proudly represented the West Liberty-Salem agricultural community at the Ohio National Poultry Show in Columbus this past weekend taking home the title of Champion Modern Game! 🏆
The Ohio National is the largest poultry show in the United States and Canada, drawing competitors from across North America to showcase the finest in poultry breeding and exhibition.

West Liberty-Salem graduate Levi Moell continues to make his Tiger family proud! Levi was recently recognized on ESPN’s SportsCenter as the winner of the 2025 Armed Forces Merit Award, an honor presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and coordinated by the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
The award celebrates individuals with a military background who have made a significant impact within the realm of college football. Levi’s story stands as a powerful example of leadership, sacrifice, and perseverance.
A redshirt junior running back for the University of Dayton, Levi’s path to college athletics was anything but ordinary. Following his standout football career at West Liberty-Salem, Levi chose to serve four years in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the Flyer football program in 2022.
Now majoring in Health Science, Levi has earned a spot on the Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll three times, all while balancing the demands of collegiate football and academics. Despite an ankle injury this season, he’s battled back to rejoin the travel squad and continues to exemplify resilience both on and off the field.
Levi’s recognition for this national award is a reflection of his unwavering work ethic, humility, and service-driven leadership — values that were evident even during his time as a Tiger.
West Liberty-Salem celebrates Levi’s incredible journey and thanks him for representing our community, our school, and our country with such integrity and pride. 🧡🖤

West Liberty-Salem Honors Our Heroes!
This morning, we proudly hosted nearly 200 veterans, active service members, and their families for our Second Annual Veterans Day Breakfast — organized by our Leadership Council and served by our amazing FFA chapter. Guests enjoyed a warm meal, musical performance by our second graders, and an inspiring message from Retired Lt. Col. Jason Douthwaite.
We’re so grateful to everyone who made this meaningful celebration possible . ❤️🤍💙

Our hearts are full — thank you to everyone who has already donated to help keep The Tiger Table food cabinet stocked! Your generosity is already making a difference.
The cabinet was well-used over the weekend and has since been restocked with food and hygiene essentials. If you’re able to give, donations of non-perishable food items, baby food, formula, and hygiene products are greatly appreciated. Every single item goes directly to supporting families right here in our community. You can send donations to school with your student or drop them off at one of our local partners — Sweetie Pies, Subway, or Theresa’s Gingerbread House — who are generously helping collect items for The Tiger Table!
Together, we’re proving that when it comes to helping others, everyone has a seat at The Tiger Table. 🧺✨

On Friday, November 1st, our fifth graders joined members of the WL-S High School Marching Band on an unforgettable field trip to The Ohio State University. They attended the university’s annual “Hometown Concert” by the Ohio State University Marching Band in Mershon Auditorium — an incredible showcase of the band’s most iconic halftime selections and fan favorites.
The day didn’t stop there! Students also enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Mershon Auditorium and a photo op right on the field — a visual and experiential highlight that brought music-and-engineering-meets-marvel to life.
This experience offered meaningful connections between music education and real-world performance, inspiring our Tigers to see how teamwork, precision, and creativity make magic happen — whether on a high school gridiron or a collegiate concert stage.
A huge thank you to our fifth graders and our high school band members for representing WL-S with pride and curiosity. Here’s to more days of exploration, inspiration, and musical excellence! 🎺🧡🖤

📜 Help Us Perfect Our Tiger History! 🧡🖤
West Liberty-Salem is in the process of updating our Top Ten Graduates wall display, which will honor the academic excellence of every graduating class from 1962–2025.
To ensure these plaques are accurate before being produced, we’re inviting the community to help us review the names and spellings for each year’s Top Ten graduates.
This week, we’re sharing the lists for Classes of 1988-1997.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue posting additional groups of years until all classes are represented.
If you notice a correction or have documentation that could help verify a name, please contact Allison Wygal in Central Office at awygal@wlstigers.org, or call 937-465-1140. Written documentation (such as a yearbook scan or transcript copy) is always appreciated to help confirm updates.
Your input will help us preserve Tiger history with the accuracy and pride it deserves. Thank you for helping us celebrate decades of academic achievement at West Liberty-Salem!

Last night, the Madison-Champaign ESC hosted their annual Community STARs Recognition Event, honoring students and staff who exemplify servant leadership through the pillars of Serving Others, Teamwork, Attitude, and Reliability. 🌟
We are proud to share that WL-S Senior Geneva Estep was recognized as our Student STAR, nominated by Mrs. Molly Smith, HS Guidance, Mr. John Stoner, Golf Coach, and support from Mrs. Allison Wygal. Although Geneva couldn’t attend because she was starring in the high school drama production (no surprise there! 🎭), her leadership, kindness, and involvement across WL-S continue to make us proud.
Our Staff STAR honoree was Mrs. Candace Watson, High School Counseling Office Secretary, nominated by Mrs. Smith for her incredible reliability, positive attitude, and dedication to our students and staff. 🧡
And to top off the evening — former WL-S student Wyatt Wilcoxon returned as the keynote speaker! Wyatt was the first-ever WL-S Community STAR and SuperSTAR winner seven years ago, and his inspiring speech reminded everyone of the lasting impact of servant leadership.
We’re so proud of these incredible representatives of our Tiger Community! 🐾🖤🧡
