This month the High School Counseling Office will feature a ‘WORKFORCE Business of the Day’ for students who desire to go straight into the workforce upon graduation. We will feature local job and career opportunities where on-the-job training is the norm. These jobs may or may not require short-term training, such as apprenticeships and/or certifications. The jobs highlighted provide a good level of income for those who are ready to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation. Today’s WORKFORCE Business of the Day is: RELIANT MECHANICAL Reliant Mechanical, located in East Liberty, Ohio, is a full-service mechanical business involving HVAC, plumbing and piping construction, maintenance and repair. Job/Career Titles: HVAC installers/technicians, plumbers, pipe-fitters, and pipe welders Training: RELIANT hires entry level employees and teaches them the trade through on the job training (apprenticeships). They are a merit based company meaning, you can advance in position and income level as quickly as you can learn and perfect the trade. All full-time employees are considered “permanent.” Advancement pace is determined by how quickly someone learns the trade. Full time and summer employment opportunities are available. Full time employees are offered a minimum wage of $14.00 per hour, and many employees achieve $18-$20 per hour within the first 2 years. Top employees earn well over $100k per year. How to Apply: Apply in person, or via email. Email your interest to mfailor@reliantmechanicalins.com Age Requirements: Full time employees must be 18 years of age. They can hire summer help at 17. Hello WL-S families, COVID cases across the state are decreasing and many areas of the state are no longer seeing high spread of the virus. In response to this, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is no longer requiring a mask mandate for busses and vans operated by a public school district as of February 25, 2022. The Champaign County Health Department has confirmed this change and we have received word that we no longer have to wear masks. This change will begin today, February 28th. For more information you may go to this website; https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/masks/mask-travel-guidance.html or read the paragraph below. Effective February 25, 2022, CDC is exercising its enforcement discretion to not require that people wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs. CDC is making this change to align with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 Community Level. Thank you, Kraig Hissong Superintendent

Reading
Elementary loves reading, and we are teaming up to share the love of books with a book exchange on Wednesday, March 2nd. This is a great opportunity for students to trade in a book they already read for another book that interests them! HOW IT WORKS: Students may bring in one gently used book they have already read to exchange for a different book. The reading level should be within the age range of your student (grades PK-1, 2-3, 4-5) Only students that bring a book will participate in the swap. Please have your book for the exchange here at school by Tuesday, March 1st. Search those closets and bookshelves and together let’s encourage a love for reading!

West Liberty-Salem Elementary raised $20,000 for the American Heart Association through the Kids Heart Challenge! Kids Heart Challenge, formerly Hoops for Hearts, is a program designed to teach our students about people with special hearts while raising money for healthy hearts everywhere. During the Kids Heart Challenge students are taught the risks of using tobacco, heart conditions, tips for eating healthy, being physically active and managing stress. They are given tools to make decisions that leave them feeling confident in improving and maintaining their own health, while also helping improve the study and treatment of kids and adults with heart disease.. We are thrilled to know that our students, their families and our staff will make an impact with such an exceptional donation. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! If you’d like to learn more about healthy living. Kids Heart Challenge website is full of resources that will encourage your family to adapt to a healthIer lifestyle. Ask your student what they learned about making their hearts happy and healthy!

Hello Families, This is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent. The school board has approved a recommended calendar change for Monday, March 7th. On this day, students will be learning remotely from home. This will allow school staff to attend Professional Development that was canceled in February due to weather conditions. The day will be considered a regular school day for all students, but students will not report to school on this day. Teachers will provide assignments for students that they can work on at home that will reinforce lessons they have been learning in the classroom. Students should be able to complete the assignments independently or with support from parents, depending on the grade level of the student. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school. Thank you for your assistance, Kraig Hissong Superintendent
