Our fourth grade STEM students designed and created paper shoes using a set number of supplies. They hosted a shoe sale displaying their final product where shoe aficionados Mrs. Purdue and Mr. Jarzab "shopped" for their favorites! The decision was a hard one because not only were designs fantastic, the marketing was pretty great too!

The fun continued in NYC last evening as seniors broke off into groups to experience a either a Yankees game or to tour Lower Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge, Financial District, Battery Park and the Staten Island Ferry. This morning, our Today Show crew made a shoutout on air to all of us back at home! (Video can be viewed in earlier post.) This morning/today they visited Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Rockefeller Center and Columbus Circle. They also enjoyed shopping on 5th Avenue and lunch. They will depart the city around 3:45 this afternoon for home. Our chaperones have thoroughly enjoyed hosting this group and say they have had a lot of fun!

Sophomores studied the play As You Like It by William Shakespeare earlier in the year. Yesterday, they all journeyed down to Cincinnati to see a musical version set in the 1990s at Cincinnati Shakespeare. Ms. Haney thought the clothing felt very familiar and Mr. Wolfe loved the 90s inspired music!

Aubree Timmons, a West Liberty-Salem junior, is making a name for herself in the world of weightlifting, literally. Timmons competed at the 2023 APF/AAPF Cincinnati Women's Pro/Am WPO Semi Finals on Saturday where she broke several national and world records. She lifted a total of 1151 pounds for the day including a 551 lb. squat, 259 lbs. for bench, and 341 lbs. The totals earned her two new PR's, two national records, and set TEENAGE ALL TIME WORLD RECORDS in squat and bench. Aubree is a member of the Valley Drive Barbell Club in Urbana, Ohio.

After a long first day of being tourists in NYC, our seniors headed out under the bright lights of the city to see the Broadway production of The Lion King. This morning they woke early for a run in Central Park and to the Early Show and Today Show. Later they boarded the Subway to Lower Manhattan where they toured the 9/11 Museum and Memorial. From there, they went to Chinatown where they enjoyed lunch there or in Little Italy. This afternoon some students will attend a Yankees game, while others will head to the Staten Island Ferry, Battery Park and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Time to honor another group of seniors! Today our Senior Shoutout goes to Evan Cook, Travis Cropper, Christian Davis, and Maggie Davis!

They have a full day of activities planned that include Grand Central Station, Chelsea Market, walking the High Line, and visiting Macy's and Herald Square. They will end the day with dinner at Tony DiNapoli's and the Broadway production of The Lion King.

First graders are learning about living versus non living creatures during their unit in life cycles. This week, Mrs. Patton's class examined the meal worm and recorded their observations related to movement, stimulation, and more! They reviewed the life cycle of a meal worm and discovered that as the worm grows they transition into beetles. That was both exciting to some and creepy to others! In Mrs. Stayrook's class, they compared living earthworms to gummy worms. They made discoveries about how their observations indicate whether the worm was living or non-living. The earthworms were very wiggly and certainly made a clear contrast agains the non living gummy worm! Next, they measured both the earthworm and gummy worm and discussed what earthworms need to survive. This creepy, crawly lab was a lot of fun! Stay tuned as they continue their life cycle unit waiting for their incubator eggs to hatch into baby chicks!
