The West Liberty- Salem Livestock Judging Team placed 4th in the State Livestock Judging Contest this year! Contestants Sophia Hardwick, Izabella Meister, Owen Barger and Shyanne McClintick will be traveling to Massachusetts in September to compete on the National level at the Big E National judging contest! The Big E is an annual event that begins on the second Friday after Labor Day and runs for 17 days. Eastern States Exposition is home to the Fair. Its governing body is a volunteer Board of Trustees consisting of distinguished civic, business and agricultural leaders from each of the six New England states. Essentially, it is a six-state-State Fair.
These top individuals have worked extremely hard this year to win this fortunate opportunity! Please wish our WLS FFA General Livestock Judging Team good luck this fall at the BIG E!
Next week is 'Teacher Appreciation Week', and we will celebrate our amazing educators all week long! We can't let 'World Teacher Day' go by without acknowledging our teachers, though! Thank you for all that you do, and for making a difference in the lives of our students!
French Club enjoyed a little Je ne sais quoi today at La Chatelaine, French Bakery and Bistro. They enjoyed a true Parisian experience from the Bonjour at the door to the delicacies for lunch! This annual trip is such a favorite for French Club that four former students joined them for a lunch today! What a surprise for Mrs. Shank!

Our first graders have an exciting announcement! They have baby chicks! Mrs. Patton and Mrs. Spencer, Mrs. Yoder, Mrs. Spring and Mrs. Stayrook began studying life cycles last week. Part of that study included these sweet baby chicks that hatched right in their classroom! Students made observations about how long the eggs took to hatch, the difference between the eggs being in an incubator versus in their natural environment, and what the chicks will need to survive. Students will help feed and care for the chicks until they are ready to go Mrs. Spencer's family farm. What a sweet and fun spring lesson!
Today is National School Principal Appreciation Day when schools across the country will recognize the importance of principals, from elementary to high school, and all the work they do for the betterment of the school districts they serve. Our eighth graders spent yesterday visiting Mount Vernon, a lunch cruise aboard the Spirit of Washington, and the Smithsonian's. Students were offered a choice of the American and Natural History Museums, or National Gallery of Art. After dinner they made their last stop of the day at the WWII, Lincoln, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials.
