They will host Valley HS this Friday in the first round of the OHSAA Football Playoffs. In addition to cheering at the game this coming Friday, our Cheer Squad will also be competing at the OHC Cheer Competition this coming Saturday.
On Saturday, our OHC Champion Girls Cross Country Team won the District Meet for the 7th year in a row. They will run at Regionals on Saturday at Troy HS at 10am and will compete for a chance to go back to the state meet.

Also on Saturday, our Boys Soccer Team travelled to Dixie and won their 2nd tournament game of the post-season, defeating Dixie 2-1. They will play Troy Christian on Tuesday night at Troy Christian at 7pm.
And finally, last night, our Marching Band with Flag Corps and Majorettes put on an outstanding performance here at Tiger Stadium in front of a great crowd of supporters.
One byproduct of having outstanding sports teams and experiencing post-season success is the many opportunities we have to go out and support them. As a reminder, all competitions are OHSAA tournament games – including the home football game on Friday. No sports passes will work. All tickets can be purchased online via the OHSAA website. There will also be a cash option at the gate. Please consider attending games this week to cheer on your friends and classmates.

Second graders traveled to The Maize at Little Darby Creek this morning for some fall fun! They went through the corn Maize, went on a hayride to the pumpkin patch, and played on all of the fun adventures they offer!

Fourth graders stepped back in time to visit the Advance one room school house in New Carlisle. The school, reproduce to the 1880-1900 time period, offers students a true experience in the life of school children from days gone by. From the 38 star flag hanging at the front of the class to oil lamps and big windows and a dunce cap on a stool in the corner, every aspect and detail feels frozen in time. Students are asked to dress the part and bring a lunch that would include foods of the time period. They played recess games that were popular in 1900, and are taught school lessons by retired school teachers who are now volunteers. Visiting the school is one of the students and teachers favorite traditions. Be sure to ask your student about everything they learned today! They are excited to share!

Bus Safety Week is coming to a close, but we continue to make bus safety a top priority! Today's tip involved proper use of mobile devices:
Cell phones and other electronic devices are often permitted on the school bus as long as:
• They are in backpacks or other holders, keeping hands free to use handrails while boarding and departing the bus.
• Sound is muted or headphones, ear buds or similar devices are used.
• Content does not violate the law or school district policy and procedures.
• Use does not create a distraction for the driver

WLS Middle and High School Fees:
Hello parents! Your 6th-12th grade students have received an updated invoice for school fees today (10/20/23). ONLY those students with outstanding fees have received an invoice.
Fee payments are due by Friday, October 27th. Any payment made (cash, check or online with credit card) after this date will delay your student in receiving a report card until the following week when fees are processed.
There are multiple ways to make a payment:
• Send check or cash with your student to pay Mrs. Nieman (please write student name(s) in memo line)
• Mail a payment, attention to Mrs. Nieman with student name in memo line
• In person between 7:15-3:15 pm to make a payment
• Pay with a credit card (online option only for credit cards) at PaySchoolsCentral (on wlstigers.org website) – this is the same company that you can pay lunch accounts but will need to set up a separate account for school fees initially and then they can be combined. There is a small usage fee applied by the company.
Fees may be paid in full or at least ¼ of the total amount may be paid each grading period to keep accounts in good standing.
For those accounts not in good standing, Progressbook Accounts will be locked and access denied.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email (jnieman@wlstigers.org) or call Mrs. Nieman, ext. 102.
Thank you!

West Liberty-Salem high school students completed the first community service day of the year on Wednesday October 18! Students and staff served a variety of organizations and projects that serve both Logan and Champaign Counites. Volunteerism and community service are some of the top projects that WLS administrators and High School Counselor Molly Smith feel are important in creating well rounded, service minded students as they navigate through young adulthood. It creates a sense of unity among peers who may not ordinarily work together but find common ground in the organization they select for this particular day. Faculty members enjoy the opportunity to spend time with their students outside of the classroom while serving others. Students were able to choose from a variety of organizations and locations including Lions and Dodge Park, the Village of West Liberty, Adriel, Green Hills, Ohio Caverns, Melvin Miller Park, Champaign County Fairgrounds, Paws Animal Shelter, The Caring Kitchen, Lutheran Community Services, various projects on WL-S campus, and cleaning up trash along Guntown Road to name a few. Fall Community Service Day has become one of our student’s and staff’s favorite days of the year; being able to enjoy an afternoon out of the building doing good is a great way to boost morale and build a sense of community among our student body. This year, service day also happened to fall on World-Wide Unity Day. Students were encouraged to wear orange to symbolize unity in service. Please enjoy this clip of our Tigers in Service!

Getting On and Off the Bus:
• Warn children that if they drop something getting on and off the bus, they should never pick it up. Instead, they should tell the driver and follow the driver’s instructions.
• Remind children to look to the right before they step off the bus.
• If you meet your child at the bus stop after school, wait on the side where the child will be dropped off, not across the street. Children can be so excited to see you after school that they dash across the street and forget the safety rules.

Mrs. Fullenkamp's 7th graders did an extension lab today to apply the study of Newton's Law! Hands on learning is fun!

Here is a short video about how school busses impact the daily transportation system. We shared this with students this week and discussed how students can stay safe on the bus and at the bus stop. Here is School Bus Safety Week Tip #3!

Today's 'School Bus Safety Tip of the Day' is all about walking to the bus stop! Here are some great tips to keep our students safe!
• Walk young children to the bus stop or encourage children to walk in groups. There is safety
in numbers; groups are easier for drivers to see.
• Practice good pedestrian behavior: walk on the sidewalk, and if there is no sidewalk stay out
of the street. If you must walk in the street, walk single file, face traffic and stay as close to
the edge of the road as you can.
• Stop and look left, right and then left again if you must cross the street. Do the same thing at
drive -ways and alleys. Exaggerate your head turns and narrate your actions so your child
knows you are looking left, right and left

The mystery behind our missing school pictures is resolved –
In high school (mostly impacting Juniors), we found one of the picture files from picture day in September was misplaced. Our photographer found the file upon being notified and pictures are being processed now. ALL students who had their pictures taken on picture day, but did not receive them, will receive their school pictures (and order code if you have not ordered a package) as soon as they delivered to WL-S. Any questions, please notify Mrs. Nieman (jnieman@wlstigers.org). Thanks for your patience!
