For more than thirty years, Lions clubs worldwide have been hosting a unique art competition for schools and youth organizations. By designing peace posters, children from all corners of the globe have the opportunity to share their interpretations of peace and motivate the world through their artistic talents.
Iris Meister, a sixth grader, was chosen by the West Liberty Lions Club as this year's winner. Iris is pictured with Middle School Principal Andy McGill and her Art Teacher Chris Smucker. Great job, Iris!

Coach Comments:
I am so proud of these girls! We were ready for a battle knowing a top-seven OATCCC state-ranked team would not make it out of our region. Based on the district performances, we were the outside team looking in. Our team embraced the challenge, handled the pressure, and came away with a state berth. To be so close to first place was amazing. It is also noteworthy that Malia, Addi, and Gwen all qualified individually. We are encouraged going into state. These girls are battle-tested and ready to compete!

"Winning is never easy, especially at the Division II level, so to take home the Regional Championship is an amazing accomplishment. I'm just so proud of the way these young men show up week after week and perform at a high level. Individually, I thought Asher Knox ran his best race of the year, meticulously moving up the entire race. Caleb Larson also had a special performance. Dylan King has put back to back solid races together, while Asher Cole and Brayan Gullett, our two freshman handled themselves well, considering this was their first Regional contest. Troy Bradley and Garrett Wallen also ran solid races, with Troy setting a Season best. We're very excited to be heading to the state meet next week!"

Last week, members of our Jungle Council had the incredible opportunity to attend the OHSAA Southwest Student Leadership Conference at Princeton High School. This event brought together young leaders from across the region, providing a platform for personal growth, skill development, and the chance to connect with like-minded peers.
The conference featured a range of inspiring speakers and interactive workshops designed to enhance leadership skills both on and off the field. Our athletes engaged in discussions about teamwork, resilience, and the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, all crucial qualities for success in sports and life.
One of the highlights was the chance to hear from collegiate, professional, and world champion athletes, authors, who have turned their sports experiences into powerful leadership journeys. Their stories motivated our students to reflect on their own paths and consider how they can make a positive impact within their teams and communities.
The Jungle Council is made up of high school athletes in 9th-12th grade who have proven themselves as leaders on their respective teams, in their community, and in the classroom. The Jungle Council is led by Athletic Director Morgan Sullivan. The council meets weekly during homeroom and are currently 3 weeks into a curriculum on Team Chemistry and how student-athletes are critically important in that concept. In December they will start a curriculum on Character and Leadership provided by Dr. Joseph Hoedel. Tiger Council members include Taryn Bradley, Asher Cole, Owen Hardwick, Ava Johnson, Brevin Louden, Isaiah Reames, Tucker Searles, Beckett Sullivan, Addison Wallen, Arianna Weaver, and Ellery Wygal.
The West Liberty-Salem Athletic Department recognized four All-American Varsity Cheerleaders during last nights football game. First time All Americans are Emery Longaberger and Elise Longshore. Congratulations on this tremendous honor!

Getting On and Off the Bus:
🚌Warn children that if they drop something getting on and off the bus, they should never pick it up. Instead, they should tell the driver and follow the driver’s instructions.
🚌 Remind children to look to the right before they step off the bus.
🚌 If you meet your child at the bus stop after school, wait on the side where the child will be dropped off, not across the street.
🚌Children can be so excited to see you after school that they dash across the street and forget the safety rules.
Thank you for always keeping our students and drivers safe!

Our STEM class is working with coding and robotics in preparation for their big Thanksgiving Day Parade! After they master the art of steering their robots, they wjll transform them into floats from popular TV shows, characters and more!

Good evening, WL-S Families, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent, with important information on our upcoming fire drill. Tomorrow, during the school day, our staff and students will be participating in their annual window egress fire drill. We conduct this safety drill to practice alternative egress in the event of a fire and to ensure our students understand how to utilize the emergency windows in their classrooms. This is part of our annual safety drills. Please do not be alarmed if you happen to see students exiting out of windows tomorrow.
Thank you, Kraig Hissong
Here is another tip on bus safety during National School Bus Safety Week!
Understanding school bus lights:
Yellow flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. You should slow down and prepare to stop your vehicle.
Red flashing lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. You must stop your car and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop-arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving, before you can start driving again.
Help us keep our drivers and students safe!

It's tomorrow! Spend the evening with our great community, supporting an even greater cause! You may even bid on an opportunity to "pie" your favorite community or school leader in the "pie throwing" contest!

Mrs. Petersson’s 5th grade math classes solved their first Break Out Boxes of the year on Friday! Students were tasked with solving fall themed challenges that served as a fun review of their current lessons. Each challenge reveals a number leading to a code that unlocks the breakout box. The concept of a breakout box is similar to an escape room on a smaller scale. They had a lot of fun reviewing what they’ve learned and enjoyed working together in small groups!

West Liberty-Salem will recognize all senior fall athletes on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at 6:05 PM at Tiger Stadium. Senior athletes and their families should arrive at the track by 5:45 to line up and move to the 50-yard line at 6:00. The first senior will be announced at 6:05.
We expect a larger than normal crowd, so the gates will officially open at 5:00 PM. Only WL-S athletic department members and official game staff are authorized entry prior to 5:00.
Come out and support all of our fall senior athletes and stay for Friday Night Lights when the Tigers take on Fairbanks! Go Tigers, Beat 'Banks!
