The West Liberty-Salem High School Mock Trial Team recently took a memorable educational field trip to the State of Ohio Supreme Court. Students had the unique opportunity to explore the Supreme Court building, gaining firsthand insight into the history, structure, and function of Ohio’s judicial system.
During the visit, team members learned about the design and historical significance of the Supreme Court building, deepening their understanding of Ohio’s legal heritage. In addition, students explored the broader court system, examining how cases progress through various levels and the important role courts play in state governance.
The trip also provided an engaging discussion on current issues facing the Ohio government, giving students a real-world perspective on legal and civic challenges in the state. Faculty members noted that the experience will enrich the team’s preparation and understanding as they continue to develop their skills in mock trial competitions.
“This visit was an incredible opportunity for our students to connect what they’ve learned in the classroom to the real workings of Ohio’s legal system,” said Sean Stormes, faculty advisor for the Mock Trial Team. “Experiences like this inspire students to think critically about law, justice, and civic responsibility.”
The West Liberty-Salem Mock Trial Team continues to exemplify excellence in both academic and extracurricular endeavors, preparing students to become informed, engaged citizens. The West Liberty-Salem Mock Trial team is now working diligently to prepare for the trial of The State of Buckeye vs Morgan Remy. Students will assume the role of either a witness or an attorney and compete in the district competition on January 30, 2026, in hopes of moving on to regionals and eventually the state competition.
