February is Heart Health Month, and at West Liberty-Salem, our students are learning early about the benefits of keeping hearts healthy. Each year, Mrs. Kim Hollar uses this time to teach students about heart health, healthy eating and physical and emotional well being, and The Kids Heart Challenge has become a big part of that! The Kids Heart Challenge is supported by the American Heart Association. This is a fun event every year, where our students learn about staying healthy while raising money for the American Heart Association. The mission is simple, “Through kids heart challenge, kids learn jump rope skills, how their heart works, and raise money for kids with special hearts. Have fun, learn how to stay healthy, and make a difference in the lives of others.” Our students raised almost $14,300 for the American Heart Association this year! Ten students raised over $200 each. Pictured below are our top fundraisers. Back row: Izzy Semaan, Solly Warye, Layne Ferryman, Amelia Sidders. Front row: Sophia VanHouten, Avery O’Connors, Calvin Cotrell, Reagan Evans Not pictured: Mason Wallace, Blake Eaton We are proud of each of our students for being part of a great cause, and helping make a difference for “kids with special hearts”.

Hello WL-S families, I have a couple of announcements. First, a reminder that this Friday, February 12th, is a regular day of school. Originally, this Friday was a Professional Development (PD) day for staff. However, due to COVID, the PD day was moved to the beginning of the school year and the 12th is now a regular day of instruction. Next, on Friday, February 19th, our staff are scheduled to receive their second required round of COVID vaccination shots. Since our scheduled time is in the middle of the school day, we felt it would be best to make Friday, February 19th be a virtual school day. Students will complete assignments provided by staff and will be informed ahead of time of what those assignments are and how to participate in their courses from home. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your flexibility. This will conclude the COVID vaccinations for staff that were able to participate. If this vaccination clinic would, for some reason, change or be canceled, we would have a regular day of school. Thank you and have a good evening.
