West Liberty-Salem had the honor of hosting the 3rd Annual Champaign County Wheelchair Basketball Game, an event that brought WLS and Urbana's communities together! Two of our own high school students showcased their skills on the court, while the girls and boys basketball teams assisted with fun halftime games. The energy was high as Champaign County cheerleaders cheered alongside our high school cheer teams, making it a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved. The West Liberty-Salem 4th grade boys basketball team had a fantastic time giving back to the community during their annual service project at Discovery Riders stables! The West Liberty-Salem High School Cheer Team is excited to host the Little Tiger Cheer Camp for students in grades K-5! This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to learn cheer motions, jumps, chants, and a fun dance while having a blast!
Camp Dates & Details:
• Wednesday, January 29th: 3:00-4:30 PM
• Thursday, January 30th: 3:00-4:30 PM
• Performance: Friday, January 31st, at halftime of the Varsity boys’ basketball game!
(Students will showcase their cheer skills, and parents will sign out their Little Tiger after the performance.)
Important Information:
• Pick-Up: Students should be picked up in the elementary gym at the end of each camp day. A parent or guardian must sign them out with their group leader.
• Fee: $25 (includes a T-shirt to wear during the performance).
• Registration Deadline: Wednesday, January 22nd.
• Payment: Please return the completed registration form and $25 fee by January 22nd. Make checks payable to WL-S Cheer.

The West Liberty-Salem Mock Trial team competed in Marion county at Districts on Friday and got 3rd place placing behind Dublin Jerome. The Tigers won one of their trials against Celina High School and lost to District Champion Dublin Jerome. Senior Ava Chamberlain was awarded the best attorney and Senior Collin Thompson was awarded best witness. The Tigers worked very hard to prepare and carried themselves well in the competition.



West Liberty-Salem’s Division B (grades 6-9) Science Olympiad team had a strong team performance at the Northmont Invitational Tournament on Saturday, January 11. Eight team members won awards in seven different events including gold medals for Levi Kitchen and Ashlyn Taylor in the event Write It Do It. Also winning awards for our team were: Drew Piacentino, Loretta Moxley, Mike Wisner, Jude Roberts, Lakota Webb, and Wyatt Brooks. Next up for our team is the Centerville Invitational on Saturday, January 25th.


Elementary students are enjoying some downtime in the library today! The library is filled with so many activities that ignite creativity, students hardly know they are still learning!

After 25 years of inspiring and mentoring young athletes, Coach Dan McGill is retiring from his distinguished coaching career. Since becoming WL-S head coach in 2013, he led the Tigers to a 97-41 record, nine playoff appearances, four OHC titles, and their first Regional Championship in 2024. Known for instilling values of hard work, integrity, and life lessons, McGill leaves an enduring legacy in both football and the community.
Thank you, Coach McGill, for the memories, the invaluable lessons, and the lasting legacy. WL-S football is forever stronger because of your leadership and impact.
