The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field state champion 4x100 Meter Relay team will be recognized at the high school boys basketball game with a banner raising ceremony on Tuesday, February 4th. The team of Tori Douthwaite, Delaney Jones, Gwen McCullough and Chloe Griffith had a stellar 2024 season, winning the Ohio Heritage Conference, DIII Southwest District, Southwest Regional and State titles. The quartet also set a new DIII State Record with a blistering 48.67 at the Regional championships. "I'm so proud of these young woman and their accomplishments, said WLS retired head coach, Ann Vogel. "We had a season of ups and downs, and this team's commitment and resilience through the tough times are a testament to what can happen if you put in the work and believe in yourself. I hope the state championship banners in our gym inspire young athletes at West Liberty-Salem to pursue their passions and know that if they put in the work they can be state champions, too." The high school Mock Trial Team recently had the exciting opportunity to visit The Supreme Court of Ohio and The Thomas J. Moyer Judicial Center. Organized by government teacher and Mock Trial Team Advisor, Sean Stormes, this trip offered students an up-close look at the history, role, and crucial responsibilities of our court system. During the visit, students participated in engaging discussions about the importance of civic participation, the election of justices and judges, and the significance of jury duty. They also explored thought-provoking case studies, gaining a deeper understanding of the legal process. This experience was a valuable opportunity for the Mock Trial Team to examine the past, present, and future of our judicial system while engaging in hands-on learning at The Ohio Supreme Court. The Mock Trial Team includes Collin Thompson, Taran Logwood, Anna Cole, Ava Chamberlain, Silas King, Greyson Horsley, Connor Garman-Ferguson, Sadie Paul, and Gwen McCullough. The team will compete in Districts at the Marion County Courthouse on Friday, January 17th, for a chance to advance to the Regional and State competitions in February!

Mrs. Johnson's fourth graders kicked off the new year with a fun and engaging activity: making paper airplanes! This hands-on project not only sparked excitement but also gave students a creative way to practice prepositions. After launching their "prepositional planes", the students wrote sentences describing where the planes landed, incorporating at least one preposition. It was a playful and effective way for the students to grasp and reinforce a new concept!

Today, members of the High School Cheer Team made a heartwarming delivery to the Bellefontaine Church of God, providing blankets collected during their recent blanket drive at home basketball games. The church will serve as a warming center starting tonight, offering shelter to 30-40 residents each night during the upcoming cold spell. Each resident will receive a warming pack, which includes one of the blankets donated by our community. A huge thank you to the cheer team and everyone who contributed to this important cause!
