The high school show choir, Sound Check, will host their fall Show Case on November 11th & 12th, with three opportunities to watch them perform. Practices began over the summer, followed early morning practices this fall. They performed at both the Labor Day Festival and Heaven’s Dew Fall Festival, and currently, they are raising money for their program every Friday at school selling hot chocolate, coffee and donuts! Sound Check, directed by Mr. Jakob Schaufelberger, is pictured performing at Heaven’s Dew, Emma Kauffman and Alaina Irving selling their sweet treats, and artwork for their fundraiser by Isla Kerns. Keep up the great work, Sound Check!

West Liberty-Salem High School kicked off their first Fun Friday of the year! Once a month, the student body, teachers and administrators come together to enjoy some type of friendly competition, morale boosting, and fun! On Friday, students and educators signed up to play charades. It’s safe to say that Mr. Wolfe’s famous air guitar was the clear winner!

Congratulations to this week’s Educator of the Week, Mr. Morgan Sullivan!

West Liberty-Salem recognized all of our fall senior athletes, band, auxiliary and their families last evening. The evening’s theme was Pink Out in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Erika Berry was recognized as a survivor during the evening’s events. Kim Long, varsity cheer coach, was also recognized as she coached the West Liberty-Salem football cheerleaders in her last home football game. It was a great evening! Go Tigers!

The high school boys cross country team made an early morning trip to Coldwater to cheer on the middle school boys and girls today. The middle school boys took 1st place while the girls finished second. Thanks Coach Louden and team for supporting our young athletes!

We began our senior night festivities with a senior pep rally this afternoon where our senior fall athletes and band members were recognized! Tonight, senior athletes will be recognized on the field beginning at 6:15. The theme is Pink Out. Wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Logan County Cancer Society, and the West Liberty-Salem student section. Go Tigers!

Please join us in congratulating our October Seniors of the Month! Tina Douthwaite and Wylie Harbour were selected by their teachers for being good students, having good character and their involvement and service at school. Seniors of the month receive gift cards donated by the following local businesses: Ice Cream Parlor, Marie’s Candies, People’s Savings and Loan, Subway, and Malia Hughes with Fathom Realty. They also receive a free lunch and dessert from the WLS Cafeteria.

Our third-fifth graders are learning or remembering how to navigate the library this week! Mrs. Perdue, elementary librarian, created a scavenger hunt that encourages students to learn how to use Dewey Decimal Classification, where to find fiction and non fiction books and how to use call numbers. They had a lot of fun exploring and learning about the library!

Senior night is tomorrow, October 7th, at Tiger Stadium!
Seniors and their family members escorting them need to gather in the east end zone (opposite the scoreboard) no later than 6:00. Seniors will align in alphabetical order with their family members, by team, according to the below order.
Football
Band
Cheerleaders
Volleyball
Boys Soccer
Girls Soccer
Girls Golf
Boys Cross Country
At 6:10 all families will move along the track, in order, to the visiting side 50-yard-line led by Athletic Director Morgan Sullivan. Ceremony begins at 6:15 PM. Each Senior and their escort(s) will move across the field to the Tiger Paw where you will pause for a picture.
Your senior received an email that includes free admission pass for 2 escorts and a picture order form to purchase photos from the event. Be sure to print and bring the order form with you and either print your admission pass or have it on your phone. You will simply need to display the pass at the admission gate and let us know who your senior is. (If your senior will be escorted by more than 2 people, please let Mr. Sullivan know by Thursday at 5:00 pm.)
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Go Tigers!

The West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team will be collecting socks, hats, gloves and scarves October 10th-14th for those in need in our community. The home rooms collecting the most items in the elementary, middle school and high school will receive a pizza party.
If you would like to donate, but don’t have a family member attending WLS, contact Coach Ann Vogel or a member of the Big Orange cross country team.

Mrs. Stayrook’s Snack Attack was a hit this week! Mrs. Stayrook’s first graders have been working hard the last couple of weeks learning all about their names. They’ve discussed how many letters, vowels, consonants and syllables are in their names. They are working hard to learn their friends’ names, too, and are doing some fun activities to reiterate the lessons. Yesterday, they had a special “Snack Attack”, to wrap up all they’ve learned. Students were asked to bring a snack that begins with the same letter as their name. Some of these can be challenging. A few of their favorites (which were kind of tricky) were…
Emma – Eggo Waffles
Kyla – Kit Kat
Tommy – tomatoes
Ike – Icee
Viola – Veggie Straws
We took pictures and compiled them into a class book to read throughout the year.
The students enjoyed seeing what their friends brought, and they loved showing off their special snack. Great job, first grade!

Ag Science students are carving pumpkins this week for Cedar Bog’s annual ‘Boo in the Bog’ event! The pumpkins will line the jack-o-lantern lit boardwalk this weekend, October 7th & 8th from 6:30-8:30 PM. WL-S students know how to serve our community!

West Liberty-Salem students are invited to attend a holiday ornament workshop at the Holland Theatre in Bellefontaine on Saturday, October 15th. Artists will make ornaments to adorn the Logan County Christmas Tree displayed at the historic Orr Mansion and then the Holland Theatre during their holiday theatre season.

Elementary picture day is tomorrow, Thursday, October 6th! Order forms were sent home with students, but you can also order online at my.lifetouch.com. Use school ID EVT38SG4X to find West Liberty-Salem Elementary.
