Sixth graders are putting in the work this week! Language Arts students who completed their book reports by the deadline celebrated with a potluck today! They had donuts, brownies, chips, cookies and more! Keep up the great work, Tigers!

Middle school student council is hosting a spirit week next week! See below for themes!

Today, Mrs. Perdue read Scmelf, the Hanukkah Elf by Greg Wolfe and Click Clack Ho! Ho! Ho! By Doreen Cronin and Betsey Lewin to her second graders during library story time. They giggled, and loved hearing about the different traditions celebrated around the holidays!

Mr. Barhorst's Social Studies class is wrapping up their unit on Mesopotamia. Today, they used clay tablets and wrote in cuneiform in Mr. Smucker shop! Cuneiform is a logo-syllabic script used in Ancient Near East, specifically Mesopotamia.

Mrs. Symmat's sixth grade science students are trying to help Santa save Christmas in their scientific workshop! Students ended their unit on kinetic energy with a fun experiment making come back toys! They created toys from different objects you can find laying around the house. They added weighted objects inside to make the item roll and return. In the pictures, you can see students created a successful comeback toy with an empty coffee container and heavy objects. After rolling the container the length of the meter stick, their container returned! Great job, scientists!

We hosted our third grade lunch buddies this week! It's always so fun to listen to the conversations as lunch buddies and students get to know each other during this time. The lunch buddy program is sponsored by United Way of Logan County. Buddies join their third grader once a month for the duration of the school year.

High School Student Council is hosting a spirit "week" for the remainder of school days until Christmas break. High School students are encouraged to get in the holiday spirit, dress up, and have fun! Themes for each day are attached.
Other grade levels, (elementary/middle school) may have their own designated spirit days. If we receive information, we will share that here. However, most teachers will share via their preferred communication tool as themes may be specific to grade level or teacher.

Tammy Allison, COO/Foundation & Community Relations at Mary Rutan Hospital Foundation, presented West Liberty-Salem Middle School Principal Mr. McGill, Middle School Counselor Kim Leichty, and Treasurer Chelsea Baldwin with a $500 check to complete a mural of encouragement for our Middle School. The mural that was designed by Rachel Schmucker, a WL-S graduate, will be displayed in the main middle school hallway offering encouraging words to students passing by. Kim Leichty thought the mural would provide students a bit of brightness in their day, while adding some much-needed color to the Middle School wing. The design will be completed by W Productions in Urbana, Ohio, who graciously offered to pick up any remaining balance after supplies and labor are accounted for. Thank you to Mary Rutan Hospital for supporting the students in the communities you serve, and Rachel Schmucker, and W Productions for being a part of this project!
