The National Honor Society recently hosted its annual blood drive in collaboration with Community Blood Centers. Thirteen faculty members and 31 students and staff registered to donate, resulting in the collection of 24 units of blood—120% of the drive's goal. These donations will help save 72 lives! First grade teacher Jenny Patton (pictured) has donated blood five times through the WL-S NHS blood drives. Great work, West Liberty-Salem students and staff!

Good afternoon WL-S Families. Today our staff and students participated in a barricade drill. We practice and discuss this drill in individual classrooms to help understand appropriate steps to take in our district safety plan. We encourage you to talk to your students about what they learned and practiced.

The Grinch popped in for a visit! Mrs. Cordell's class watched The Grinch today, and after the movie had a run in with the mean one himself! Students were hesitant to share their wishlists with him after the movie and his mischievous thievery was still so fresh in their minds! One student even exclaimed, "Don't steal my Christmas, Grinch!"

Our fifth graders visited THE Ohio State University to see the Best Band in the Land! The concert took place at the Mershon Auditorium, where students enjoyed a performance featuring highlights from the season's best halftime shows, along with traditional favorites. They also had the chance to tour the auditorium and take photos on the field. What a memorable day!

Mrs. Cordell's class is kicking back in style to celebrate their hard-earned gold card achievements! With hot cocoa, bowls of buttery popcorn, and a movie on the big screen, they’re making the most of this well-deserved reward. Dressed in their coziest clothes, they brought pillows and blankets to create the ultimate comfy spot, settling in for a relaxing afternoon filled with a good company and celebration for their outstanding behavior all month long!

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Madison-Champaign Educational Service Center (ESC) hosted its sixth annual Community STARs Service Award program. This event, established by the ESC staff, recognizes outstanding students and staff who exemplify the qualities of servant leadership. These individuals go beyond self-interest to serve the needs of others, personifying the true spirit of leadership through selflessness and service. Among those nominated for the Community STAR Award were West Liberty-Salem senior Taran Logwood and Special Education Coordinator Julie Hartsel. Taran was nominated by High School Counselor Molly Smith and Teacher/Coach Dan McGill, while Julie Hartsel received her nomination from High School Secretary Julie Nieman. As part of the nomination process, students were invited to honor a "Person of Impact" in their lives who has shaped their personal and academic growth. Taran chose to recognize coach and mentor, Andrew Donahoe, for his significant influence in both his athletic and personal development. Congratulations Taran and Julie on leading by your examples of selfless leadership!
