Sixth grade science students hosted first graders in the annual introduction to the land lab this week. This annual trip occurs both in the fall and spring and allows students to make seasonal observations along with general exploration. The land lab has become popular with many classes in K-12. It is used for variety of reasons, but most importantly, discovery-based learning. First graders made scientific observations of patterns, size, shape, and colors. They observed spiderwebs, plants, and looked at the vegetation present in the Mad River Watershed. The sixth graders were responsible for creating and sharing this experience and did a fantastic job pointing out important discoveries and coaching them to draw conclusions about their observations.

Ticket codes are being sent home with every football player, cheerleader, and band member TONIGHT (Wed night). That is your only way to purchase tickets. Each code is good for 2 tickets, so if only one person in your household is using the code, you may offer the other code to someone else- but it will max out at 2 purchases. No tickets will be sold at the gate, and OHSAA will not allow any general admission, so if you do not have a code to purchase a ticket online, unfortunately you will not be able to attend. This is OHSAA rules, not WL-S. If you do not plan to use your codes, please offer them to others so there are no codes wasted. The game will be live streamed on our schools website.

What better way to test your elastic launcher than to take advantage of the perfect weather?! Our 8th grade science students have been learning about different types of potential energy this week. Their study concluded with a lab making elastic launchers to test the force and energy used at rest and with different stretch distances of rubber bands. They did a great job and learned from the different conclusions! Keep up the good work!

This week, we begin introducing our permanent subs, who joined us this year. Today, please help us welcome our staff spotlight, Coralea Collins! Coralea has subbed for us before, but as a permanent sub she will be with us daily and in many different capacities this year! Mrs. Collins and her husband Brad have three children. Their son Tyler is Sophomore at Miami University. Their daughter Audrey is an 8th grader and Josh is in 3rd grade. She grew up in Delaware County and went to Olentangy. Mrs. Collings graduated from Otterbein University in 2001 and received her Elementary Education degree. She began teaching in the Olentangy District and taught 2nd grade for 12 years. Then their family decided to become owners of a lodging business in Knox County in 2013. In 2019 they decided to slow life back down and found their forever home in the West Liberty-Salem area. She began subbing last year in the elementary. Mrs. Collins LOVES her permanent substitute position this year! Her favorite part is getting the chance to see all the kids in every grade and help out all the teachers and staff when they need it! “I love having a new adventure everyday!“ As a family, their hobbies include, watching their kids play sports, camping, beekeeping and movie nights at home. Welcome Mrs. Collins!

Hello, This is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent, with an important message. This afternoon we have two busses that will be dropping students off late today. This is due to a lack of bus drivers for health related reasons, that are out of the drivers’ and the district’s control. If your child rides bus 12 this afternoon, your child will be approximately 30 minutes late today to their bus stop. If your child rides bus 18, they will be approximately 20 minutes late today. We apologize for this inconvenience. The district has looked at all options and this appears to be the best option to get all student home safely. Your children will be supervised at the school until they are able to depart. If you would rather pick up your child that rides bus 12 or 18 today, please call the school to notify the office that your child will be picked up after school. For elementary students, you will need to sign your child out to be released to you at the main entrance of the school. Again, bus 12 will be 30 minutes late and bus 18 will be 20 minutes late today. Thank you, Kraig Hissong

This week we would like to welcome another new member of our staff, and give our staff spotlight to Megan Wilkins, assistant treasurer. Megan is a graduate of Graham High School and currently lives in Urbana with her husband Kyle. Many of you probably know Kyle, Class of 2014 alum, and Head Middle School Football Coach. Prior to WL-S, Megan was a staff accountant at an accounting office in Bellefontaine. Kyle and Megan have been together for 9 years this November so she feels right at home here at WL-S! Megan and Kyle married September of 2017 and have one daughter, Ella, who will be 2 in December. Ella loves anything livestock, especially going to her grandparents farm and walking and feeding the sheep (“baa’s” as she calls them). Ella is also a big football fan – especially Tiger football! Thursday’s are her favorite day to cheer on Daddy’s team and yell “Touchdown” any chance she gets. If you see a little girl trying to run out on the field yelling “Daddy” - it’s probably her. Outside of work you can find Megan usually at a livestock show or football game. Supporting others in their endeavors is one of her favorites. She is a lover of all things fall, avid Grey’s Anatomy watcher, and Ohio State fan. Family time is her favorite and loves helping others any chance she gets. Welcome to the Tiger Family, Megan
