Please note the following update pertaining to winter sports spectator policy. This policy comes to us from the OHC. Any questions should be directed to the WLS athletic department. Members of the Ohio Heritage Conference Board of Control met on Wednesday, Nov. 25th at 9:00am to discuss the Governor’s recommendation to restrict seating for athletic events from Nov. 30th to Dec. 31st. After discussion, the board approved the following: “The OHC Schools will follow the recommendation of the governor and the OHSAA and limit attendance at games/competitions to parents of participants from Nov. 30th to Dec. 31st.” The spirit of this action is to allow parents (including step-parents or other guardians when possible) of participants (players and cheerleaders/pep band members when applicable) to attend games. The overall capacity of different facilities will impact how many tickets will be available per participant. Family of game personnel (including coaches, scorebook keepers, etc.) will not be admitted to games as these individuals are not considered to be participants. For HOME games: For the month of December, purchasing pre-sale is not required. Each family gets two tickets to be used by ADULT family members, unless they have a step-parent which gives them 3 or 4 tickets. These names must be given to the coach to include on the roster for home & away games prior to each game. The coach or AD must be notified of any name changes. All games at WLS will be live streamed, and away competitions streaming details will be posted on the WLS website & facebook page each day. Both Home and Away schools will provide full rosters for teams competing. Rosters will include the names of parents/adults associated with each participant. Only individuals listed as parents on the provided roster will be admitted into the game. Again, capacity of the venue will impact number of parents permitted to attend. The Board of Control feels that this is consistent with guidance provided by the OHSAA on November 24th. We understand that the OHSAA provided additional guidance on Nov. 25th which included language about immediate family members. At this time, the board of control continues to support the decision made on Nov. 25th. From OHSAA on November 24, 2020 TO: Member Schools’ Superintendents, Principals and Athletic Administrators FR: Doug Ute, OHSAA Executive Director Winter Sports General Update In following up on Governor DeWine’s remarks during his news conference earlier today (Tuesday, Nov. 24), the OHSAA, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office, is recommending that those schools who are moving forward with sports competition eliminate fans or dramatically restrict attendance to parents of the participants only between now and the end of 2020. While the Ohio Health Director’s Sports Order has a limit on spectator capacities for indoor events, fans and crowds are NOT advisable at this time. As COVID-19 numbers are spiking in Ohio, this is an opportunity for our schools to help limit the spread of the virus. A few related recommendations: • For those schools that decide to admit parents, list the names of the parents on a roster sheet that is located at your ticket window/admission table. This will help clarify who should/should not be admitted and will hopefully eliminate non-parents from attending. • Limit media to those who normally cover your school and consider utilizing a streaming service in order for fans to view your contest(s). • There is no prohibition on cheerleaders and pep bands, but schools should make their own decisions on these students’ participation and should strongly consider not sending cheerleaders to away contests.

Now's the time to start bidding (or "buy now”) on all of the awesome stuff the Athletic Association has to auction! There are many items that can be shipped, and things that are definitely not exclusive to Tiger fans, so please share and shop for others too. BID & view items here: https://one.bidpal.net/wlsaa The WLSAA Annual Reverse Raffle has been raising funds to help build The Tiger Strong Fieldhouse for 3 years. It is also our biggest fundraiser of the year. Covid brought plans for the 4th and best one yet to a screeching halt in March. SO, here we are-- POWERING through with an online auction of all of the AMAZING donations from our community's businesses and private donors! These auction items will make great Christmas gifts! In normal circumstances, we would be planning now for our 5th annual event in March 2021, but instead, we are hoping this format will allow us to generate donations for the Reverse Raffles of 2020 AND 2021. Bid until 12/11. Purchased items will be available for pickup at WLS near the concession stand on 12/12 & 12/19 (if PICK UP ONLY). Some items were designated with mailing option at buyer request, and with shipping paid by buyer.

Key Club held their last meeting as a full group for 2020 and used the time to make cards for the HS teachers and staff. They wanted to leave them with some encouragement before the holiday break and remind them that they are appreciated! This particular card speaks to the impact the entire staff has on our students Take a moment to read it and thank you for sharing your awesome students with us each day!

WLS would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our students and their families for the generous donations to our local food banks! Last week, the elementary challenged the middle school/high school to bring in the most food items and load up our local food pantries for the holidays. The winning school would get to put a pie in the face of the losing principal! The results are in and one unlucky principal received a pie in the face, as promised. Check out the video to see who won the food drive challenge and enjoy! https://youtu.be/D5gNajIEd1U

Hello Families, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent of WL-S, with important information about reporting COVID positive cases while we are on Thanksgiving Break. Since it is unlikely that you will be able to reach a staff member beginning tomorrow at school by phone, we would like families to report any COVID cases that occur in your immediate family and impact a student(s) by using the Report COVID + Results link found on our website under the MENU tab or on our WL-S Tiger App. Click on this link and you will be taken to an electronic form where you can input your child’s name and answer a few questions that will help us ensure that contact tracing is completed, a Return to School date is established, and any materials, etc. can be provided to your student. Please utilize this option if you are unable to connect with someone from the school. We want to ensure that if anyone at school is a close contact, that we are able to contact those individuals as soon as possible. We will monitor this reporting system daily. Thank you, Kraig Hissong

Hello Families, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent of WL-S, with important information concerning Friday, Free Lunch and Breakfast Delivery for students on days they will be on remote learning at home and on bus route pick up and drop of times for students riding the bus during our hybrid schedule. First, Free lunches for all students are available even while we are on our Hybrid schedule. Those breakfasts and lunches will be delivered by bus drivers, door to door, on Fridays, for the three remote learning days each week. Delivery dates are Friday, December 4th, December 11th, and December 18th. If you wish for the breakfasts and lunches to be delivered to your home for your child(ren), you will need to call or email Kathy Smith at 937 465 1075 x 136 or KSmith@wlstigers.org. In your phone message or email, please leave your name and your student’s names. We will take that information and add it to the list for deliveries. If you live in the village of West Liberty or are open enrolled, we will likely have multiple bus stops available for you to pick up your lunches. Please remember that these lunches are free and will ensure that your children have lunches available to them during the hybrid schedule. Next, since only about half the number of students will be riding the school bus each day next week, please allow for your bus driver to arrive up to 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later than your normal pick-up or drop-off time. We should know by Wednesday of next week what approximate time drivers will arrive at your bus stop or home after the routes have been driven for a couple of days. We apologize for this change, but it is difficult for us to predict the impact of less students riding the bus and pick-up/drop-off times. By Wednesday, we should have a time identified for our families for the remainder of the Hybrid schedule. Thank you, Kraig Hissong

Thanksgiving
Hello families, This is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent of West Liberty-Salem Local School District, Today the Champaign County Superintendents were notified by the Champaign County Health Department, Gabe Jones, concerning the serious increase of COVID cases that Champaign County, and the entire State of Ohio are seeing at this time. In an effort to try to limit the spread of COVID and reduce the number of students impacted as close contacts we will be moving to a Hybrid model of instruction for most k-12 students except students that attend pre-school and some of our low-incident classrooms. Hi-point students will continue to follow the schedule provided to them from Hi-Point. This will allow for greater social distancing on busses, in the classroom and during lunch which hopefully will protect students and staff from further spread. More details and information will be coming to families. Starting November 30th through December 18th, WL-S will be operating in a Hybrid model. This means that approximately half of our students will report on Monday’s and Wednesday’s and the other half will report on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. On days that students report, students will follow their normal school schedule and on the days that students do not report they will be learning remotely. Friday’s will be a flexible day for teaching staff to provide remote instruction and for planning purposes. It is our hope that this will only last as long as necessary and that we will be in regular in-school sessions beginning in January after the holiday break. At this time there have been no changes made to extracurricular activities, but it is likely that we may see changes in athletic and extracurricular schedules. For all students who are learning utilizing SchoolsPLP, there will be no changes to your schedules at this time. We appreciate all of our families understanding and hope that this will allow for you to make plans. Again this will begin on Nov. 30th and will last for 3 weeks until December 18th according to the Champaign County Health Department Order.

Several 5th graders were surprised with a golden ticket to a dessert bar to celebrate a successful 9 weeks! These students not only performed well academically, they also never had to use any of their passes! Passes are given at the beginning of the 9 weeks for those oopsie moments when one might forget their assignment book or maybe they forgot to complete their homework. They allow a little leeway just when they need it. These students, however were on it this quarter! Way to go, Tigers! Keep it up!
