With snow days, and odd schedules lately, it’s finally time to get back to our weekly staff spotlight! This week’s staff spotlight goes to Stacy Dunn! Stacy works hard behind the scenes at school and you may not see her much. But, where she probably looks familiar is assisting with morning drop off, coming in early and braving the cold, rain and other conditions to see our students in the building. Thanks, Stacy! Here is what Stacy shared with us: I joined the WL-S staff in August of 2010, after teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in Clark County for 13 years,. I quickly learned that WL-S is a special place to be with fantastic students, dedicated staff and unbelievable community support. As part of the WL-S administrative team, I help to support our K-12 staff in various ways, such as, professional development planning, textbook and curriculum supply purchasing, monitoring state mandates, organizing state testing, etc. Although I miss teaching students, I enjoy having the opportunity to assist our district in supporting all of our students. I live in Champaign County and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 24 years. We have 3 children: a son, Jordan, and two daughters, Allison and Brooke. Our son recently graduated from college, our oldest daughter just started her college journey, and our youngest daughter is now in high school (time goes too quickly). Between soccer, 4H animals, and all the other tasks that come with family-life, we’re often busy trying to keep up with everything. Thanks for all you do for WL-S, Stacy!

Mrs. Roberts’ Edison State Physics students shared their love of math and science by creating some STEM activities for the 1st graders last week. They visited each class with an interactive math activity to reinforce fact families by adding and subtracting bouncy balls from different boxes. They taught the 1st grade all about balanced and unbalanced forces by dancing and moving boxes using a force. It’s always a treat when our high school students visit the younger classes, and they love the hands on learning experience too!

High school Key Club members hosted their first Fun Friday of the year, and both students and teachers enjoyed participating in a little friendly competition! Students, teachers and administrators joined relay teams to compete for bragging rights in several different events. Pictured below are Mr. Johnson, Mr. Hissong and Logan Phillips and Maddox Havens in a heated game of Chubby Bunny. Mr. Johnson and Logan won their round, but in a later match up, Mr. Hollar came in to take the bragging rights from Johnson. Fun Friday will happen for the remainder of the year during homeroom time. Awesome job to our Key Club members for thinking of a way to have some fun in a not so typical school year. We look forward to next time!

The seniors gathered today to present senior Katie Rollins with a poster signed by her classmates and wish her good luck before her appearance at the State bowling championship tomorrow! Katie is the only girl in the history of the West Liberty-Salem bowling program to compete at the State level. Katie began her bowling career in eighth grade after her brother joined in 7th. Her coach Larry Searles credits the twin dynamic playing a part in her development stating, “She always wanted to beat Bobby.” During her four years Rollins has been to Districts twice and has achieved both honorable mentions or first team awards every year in the OHC, even while bowling with the boys team this year. Coach Sealers had this to say, “Her work ethic is impeccable and her contributions to the bowling program are historic. Her favorite quote has to be, “I don’t know.” Whenever I ask her why she did something that is the answer that I always get.” We wish Katie all the best at tomorrow’s competition. Your dedication to the program and your success is telling of where your future endeavors will take you! We are proud of you, Katie! Good luck!
