The West Liberty-Salem Girls Track and Field team will sponsor a Half Court Shot competition during halftime of the boys varsity basketball games. Anyone wanting to participate may buy a Single ticket for $5 or five tickets for $20. A ticket will be drawn at the end of the 1st quarter and the winning ticket holder will have chance to win half of what's in this week's pot if he/she makes the shot. If no one makes the shot the money will carry on to the next week. This week’s pot will begin with $500, so if someone makes the shot this week, he/she is already guaranteed to win $250! The winner must be present and shoot the half court shot to win. Other rules also apply. Coach Vogel and other Tiger Track and Field team members will be selling tickets during the JV game and between JV/Varsity games. All proceeds benefit the WL-S Tiger Track and Field program.

Mrs. Stayrook’s first graders enjoyed a snack that helped them recreate how Squanto taught the pilgrims to plant corn! They made a mound of dirt, dropped in some seeds, then laid a fish on top for nutrients. They used Oreos, popcorn and Swedish fish. The kids loved it!

Mrs. Carrie Smith and her Marine Biology students had a Tide Pool Tasting party as part of their unit on Tide Pools and their ecosystems. Tide pools, although they typically look like just shallow puddles of water, are actually complex homes to many invertebrate marine life! And, with each crashing wave new organisms and nutrients join the ecosystem that serve as delicious delicacies for larger sea life (and humans too)! Mussels, shrimp and squid are a few of the tide pool dwellers that were served during their tasting lab. Students took turns making different seafood dishes and for some, tried a whole new food group!

This ‘Week at a Glance’ includes 11/29-12/6. Come out and support the Tigers!

Elementary students and staff didn’t have to travel to 34th Street to see the Thanksgiving Day Parade this year! Instead, our fifth grade Stem classes created their own! They made floats including Clifford the Big Red Dog, Bluey, and Oscar the Grouch to name a few, placed them on top of robots and traveled the halls presenting their own Thanksgiving Day Parade! Great creativity and hard work pays off! Great job, fifth graders!

Hello, this is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent, with a couple of announcements. First, All students and staff will be participating in safety training tomorrow in the event of an active shooter in the building or on school grounds. This training is required annually by the state of Ohio to prepare students in the event of an active shooter emergency. This year we will be conducting a table-top discussion exercise that will be grade-level appropriate for students. Students and Staff will discuss how they would respond if we had an active shooter in a certain location in the building. Responses will vary depending on where your child is located at the time of the drill. This drill will be conducted in a manner that will not alarm students, but will provide them an opportunity to reflect and practice on the things they have learned from our staff and ALiCE training. We encourage you to discuss this with your children either before or after the drill tomorrow so they can share with you what they have learned. Last, we have seen an increase in the number of COVID cases in our community over the last couple of weeks. This has resulted in an increased number of quarantines and positive case isolation. We encourage you to continue to monitor your child's health each day and to keep them home if they have symptoms of COVID or are sick. Also encourage your children to wash their hands regularly and use other prevention strategies to help avoid transmitting COVID. Thank you, and have a good evening.

Kindergarten is in feast mode and ready for Thanksgiving after kicking off the holiday week with a traditional feast. There was turkey, mashed potatoes, noodles, and other thanksgiving goodies.. They made placemats, learned about holiday traditions, and gave thanks for a wonderful meal! There is always something to be grateful for at WL-S!

First graders recreated The Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Feast today and watched the TV special! The unique Charlie Brown Thanksgiving feast included jelly beans, popcorn, pretzels and toast, a meal prepared by Snoopy for Charlie’s friends. Don’t worry, we incorporated our own healthier versions of what Snoopy is serving. Students discussed the moral of the Charlie Brown story, conflict and resolution. The feast was definitely popular with this group!

Freshman class officers organized a Thanksgiving potluck as a fundraiser for their class. “Turkey Tickets” were sold for $5 and students were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving meal! Class officers pictured include Jayden Temple, Cody LeVan, Ava Johnson, Ava Chamberlain and Collin Thompson.

Mrs. Roberts’ Edison State Physics class completed a water rocket project this week. After completing the rocket build, they applied the concepts they’ve learned from a unit on Newton’s Laws. They used an astrolabe and calculus to calculate the height of each launch. They also analyzed how mass and amount of water affected the height of the rocket.
You can watch the launch by clicking here: https://youtu.be/aTbhT8c-ahs
