"I'm very proud of the entire program today, four wins speaks volumes to what these young men and women put into this sport each and every day. Winning a conference championship is something we definitely take great pride in and doing it is definitely a big deal for these young men. I was very pleased with all sixteen guys performances, but especially proud of the four seniors that competed in their final conference championship. Owen Harrison, Michael Jones, Micah Smith, and Chandler McCafferty.

Mr. Johnson and Mechanicsburg Principal Mr. Schultz presented a check to Blessing Bag Board members for $2,335 to support the Champaign County Blessing Bag Program Friday evening. 'Blessing Bags' is a program that supports students facing hunger at home and provides student-friendly foods that do not require refrigeration or the help of an adult to prepare. Students and staff in both schools raised money to help support the food program for students. West Liberty-Salem raised $900 last week, and Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Lenk’s homerooms tied for raising the most money. Money raised by WL-S students and staff will stay within our district to support bags for our students. Donations will be accepted all week to present another check this Friday during the football game at Triad. Students are encouraged to donate $5 in their homeroom. Let’s help support this initiative!

The West Liberty- Salem FFA Chapter fed more than 135 local farmers last evening during their ‘Feed the Farmers’ annual event. Trista Havens, Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA advisor, and her students request the community’s help in suggesting local farm families to receive the meals each year! Feeding those who feed us is just a small way we can show appreciation to the farmers who spend long seasons away from their families ensuring the American livelihood. Meals are prepared by FFA students and volunteers and delivered by our FFA officer team and other volunteer members. The ‘Feed the Farmers’ program has grown each year and they have plans to double this initiative in the future! If you would like to add yourself or another farmer to our growing list please e-mail Mrs. Havens at THavens@wlstigers.org.

The West Liberty girls soccer team are OHC CHAMPS after a 5-0

The high school counseling office is gearing up for another year of educating our students with monthly topics that will set our students up for a successful year. September’s theme was ‘Testing 101’. This topic advises students about the grade appropriate state and standardized tests they will take this year. Mrs. Smith provided handouts with important test dates, what to expect, and how to prepare. Tests like the ACT, PSAT, and the ASVAB were specifically discussed so that students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns about test taking. Links to those handouts are located on our website, click ‘Documents’, and scroll. to the bottom of the page. In October, Mrs. Smith will discuss graduation, seals, and plans.
Important upcoming dates:
10/25 PSAT, Juniors; sign up in the Counseling Office
11/22 Sophomore experience day at Hi-Point
11/22 ASVAB all juniors
12/5-9 State Test retakes

Tis the season for......APPLES! Mrs. Blair’s STEM class put their engineering skills to the test creating an apple bobber! They were given a specific list of supplies they could use to create their bobber that would retrieve apples from a bucket of water. The student team who created the most effective bobber and retrieved the most apples from the bucket won! The winning team was Lucas Piacentino and Iris Meister! Great work!

Mrs. Stayrook’s first graders are learning all about apples! During their investigation, they made several observations and discoveries including color, shape, and size (by measuring how tall and around). They completed their ‘Investigation Apple’ packets with all of the information they learned! Keep up the great work, first graders!

Juniors enjoyed lunch with their families today! After lunch, they played basketball, corn hole, and spent time catching up with other guests. Sophomores will host their families on Monday, October 17th at 12:05.
