The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team played host to several OHC schools Tuesday evening and came away with a team win.

First place finishes for the Tigers included Lena Kauffman Pole Vault (8'6"), Lyndee Harrison Shot Put (31'03.5"), Isabella Hardwick Discus (96'06"), Chloe Griffith 100 meter dash (13.93), Claire Longshore 300 meter hurdles (50.63), Malia Miller 3200 meter run (12:50.62), the 4x800 relay team of Miller, Ashley Yoder, Teagan Boyd and Breece Gullett (10:46.85), the 4x200 relay team of Sophia Hardwick, Gwen McCullough, Claire Longshore and Mallory Bostick (1:53.87), the 4x100 relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Elise Longshore, Chloe Griffith and Gwen McCullough (54.38), and the 4x400 relay team of Claire Longshore, Gwen McCullough, Breece Gullett and Mallory Bostick (4:24.49).

WLS will compete at the Minster Memorial Invitational Saturday.
Kindergarten Screening will be held on May 15 & 16, 2023 for students enrolling for the 2023-2024 school year.
All students must be age 5 before August 1, 2023, to be eligible to attend kindergarten.

1) After you sign up for a screening appointment for your student, Mrs. Cotrell will send you several forms to complete via email within 5 business days. You may return these forms via US mail to 7208 US Hwy 68 N, West Liberty, OH 43357 or email to Mrs. Cotrell at alcotrell@wlstigers.org. You may send a picture, a PDF attachment, a scanned copy, or a printed copy of these forms.
2) Each student will meet with teacher(s) and both parents may attend the screening appointment with the student.
3) After the teacher(s) meets with your student, you may choose to meet briefly with the school nurse (Mrs. Douthwaite) if you have medical concerns such as: allergies, asthma, diabetes, daily medication, seizures, or any other significant medical issue. You will receive a separate email later this year with information about immunizations and wellness policies.

Attention HS Students: Have you considered a career in social work? Want to learn more about the field of social services? Then sign up to attend a summer Career Pathways Program July 10-27! This program will run 3 hours per day, and students will be paid $30 each day they attend! The program is open to students going in to grade 9 and current seniors. FFA hosted a gratitude breakfast for staff this morning in appreciation for their support of the program all year. FFA officers were at school bright and early to serve staff beginning at 7:30. The menu included scrambled eggs, pancakes and sausage. Officers made breakfast deliveries to staff members who couldn't attend in person. The staff very much appreciated the early morning meal.
Mrs. Johnson and Miss Kale led a fun ELA review session last week! Students traveled between classrooms performing ELA tasks that would help them recall concepts they’ve learned all year. During the activity they were faced with roadblocks that required them to perform either brainstorming or physical activities. Some of those activities involved writing, rock, paper, scissors with a staff member, ELA hopscotch, and delivering thank you notes where directed. The review session helped students to feel more confident in applying ELA concepts to real situations, and they had a lot of fun!

The Tigers were led by three first place relay teams including the 4x800 team of Malia Miller, Ashley Yoder, Teagan Boyd and Breece Gullett (10:20.66), the 4x200 team of Sophia Hardwick, Gwen McCullough, Claire Longshore, and Mallory Bostick (1:54.64), and the 4x100 team of Tori Douthwaite, Elise Longshore, Chloe Griffith and Gwen McCullough (55:04). Sophia Hardwick also won the discus (93'09").
Placing second for WLS were Kenzie Bahan in shot put (30'11"), Lena Kauffman pole vault (8'0), Breece Gullett 800 meter run (2:30.74) and the 4x400 relay team of Claire Longshore, Teagan Boyd, Breece Gullett and Mallory Bostick (4:25.63).
Third place finishers included Sophia Hardwick in the 100 meter hurdles (17.58) and 300 meter hurdles (49.71), and Taylor Kennedy 3200 meter run (13:12.40).
Finishing fourth were Claire Longshore in the 100 meter hurdles (18.49) and 300 meter hurdles (51.95), Ashley Yoder 1600 meter run (5:48.4), and Mallory Bostick 400 meter dash (1:04.45).
Fifth place finishers were Isabella Hardwick discus (82'01"), Tina Douthwaite pole vault (7'0), Lily Smith 3200 meter run (14:01.06), Chloe Griffith 100 meter dash (14.19).
Chipping in sixth place finishes were Anna Knox long jump (13'06.5"), Aubree Timmons shot put (26'07.75"), and Malia Miller 1600 meter run (5:56.30).
Rounding out the Tiger scores in seventh place were Anna Knox in high jump (4'06") and Gwen McCullough in 8th place in the 800 meter run (2:44.16).
WLS will compete at the Miami East Invitational on Thursday.

Students in Mrs. Carrie Smith's Astronomy class took a field trip to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta! While there, they did a rocket building and payload activity that focused on getting the most supplies to Mars with limited fuel. They also took a guided tour of the life and history of Neil Armstrong and the Apollo Missions. It was a fun and educational trip that the students really enjoyed!
French 3 students are competing in a French Lyrics Training National Music Competition. Kendall LeVan, Abigail Miller and Xan Schmidt are testing their French fluency through this fun competition by listening to a song completely in French and filling in the missing song lyric. Xan and Abigail won the regional competition and will move on to the next round. Kendall participated in the intermediate level and came in second place in the state-wide competition! Keep up the great work, girls!
