What an awesome community of students and families we have! So many of our staff have received notes just like this, apologizing to US for having to cancel things. Wow! We know how many of our students were sad about Literacy Night, but Tyler reminded Mr. Hollar that he knew he was sad too. Thanks, Tyler, for being so kind!

Here are a few tips from Mrs. Leichty, Middle School Guidance Counselor, on how to talk about COVID-19 with your children. Thanks, Mrs. Leichty, for taking the time to put this together!

Literacy week celebrations continue! Mrs. Reed’s class had a mystery reader yesterday, and they were excited to learn it was Mr. Hollar! He read ‘Snack Attack’ by Terry Borders and highly recommends it! If you are looking for something fun to read with your younger students over break, definitely check this one out!

District calendars for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years are now posted! You can find them on the Website under the general information tab. Note that Professional Development days and delays are not yet on the calendar. Those will be added at a later date. Communicating this information two years in advance is important to us so our district and families know what to expect. Head over and check them out!

Hello, If your Child has medication that they will need over the three week break, please have a parent or guardian come to the school to pick that medicine up today or Monday if possible during regular school hours, 7: 30 am to 4 PM. Thank you, Kraig Hissong
Many elementary families are receiving emails, Remind messages, or Seesaw messages regarding the availability of WiFi and computer access in your homes. Please take a moment and respond according to the request. Thank you!

Hello families, This is Kraig Hissong, Superintendent of West Liberty-Salem Local School District with an important message regarding the Coronavirus. Today, the Governor announced that all schools in the State of Ohio will be on an extended 3-week spring break beginning Monday afternoon. In Response, West Liberty-Salem will be on a 2-hour delay for tomorrow, Friday, March 13, to allow teachers time to prepare materials for students for the extended break. Students will report to school at 9:40 am for the MS/HS and 9:45 am for the elementary. Ohio Hi-Point and Alternative students should report to school at their regular time and school will be closed Mac students. Students will be sent home on Friday with work that will help them review and apply information they have learned this year and take home any items they will need for the next three weeks.
Monday will be a Teacher/Staff work day and students will not report to school. Students will remain on break through April 3rd. We will provide families with additional information as we learn more details from the state. I appreciate your understanding as we all navigate this unprecedented situation and appreciate all the support our schools receive from the community.
There have been changes to our events list, which is attached below. Please check back several times a day for the next several days as things continue to unfold. We also ask that you refer to our website, live feed and facebook for the most accurate and current information. This will eliminate the sharing of inaccurate information.
NYC trip has been cancelled. Mr. Johnson sent an e-mail with information regarding the details, so please look for that today.
Again, we thank you for your patience as we follow the directives of the CDC and Governor DeWine. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

The West Liberty-Salem School District, like many organizations is receiving continual updates regarding the threat of the Coronavirus in our community and State. In an attempt to be proactive and mitigate the spread of this disease, the district will be following the recommendations of the CDC, health departments and the Governor of Ohio. At this time school will remain open as scheduled, however, many events will be canceled due to the increased chance of exposure of our students and our community to the virus. Please see more information and a complete report of these cancellations on our school website under news. As new information is received hourly from the health department and the Governor's office, we will continue to update how the Coronavirus will impact our school district. Thank you very much for your understanding during these next few weeks or months. I can not express how disappointed I am in having to cancel or alter scheduled school events, however, the threat of spreading this illness and the importance of keeping our community healthy is very important. Thank you, Kraig Hissong

Things are really getting sweet around here this week! Administration, better known as Mr. Mint, Princess Lolly, Queen Frostine, and King Kandy, took the kindness cart out for a spin sharing treats with their friends! Staff and students love seeing what joy the kindness cart brings (and maybe a little laughter, too)!

Elementary students have been loving the extra visitors at lunch this month! Grandparents are welcomed to visit with their grandchildren all month long during their lunch! Adult lunches are $4 or you can bring lunch with you. See you there!

It’s literacy week and things are off to a great start! Mrs. Cotrell was the celebrity guest reader in Mrs. Spring/Patton’s class this morning. She read ‘Violet the Pilot’ by Steve Breen. It’s a tale about a young girl who loves to create her own inventions instead of playing with dolls. Thanks, Mrs. Cotrell, for reading to their class!
It’s also literacy spirit week and we have some great themes days planned! Join us in celebrating literacy this week and Thursday evening for Literacy Night!
