Again, we thank you for your patience as we follow the directives of the CDC and Governor DeWine. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

The West Liberty-Salem School District, like many organizations is receiving continual updates regarding the threat of the Coronavirus in our community and State. In an attempt to be proactive and mitigate the spread of this disease, the district will be following the recommendations of the CDC, health departments and the Governor of Ohio. At this time school will remain open as scheduled, however, many events will be canceled due to the increased chance of exposure of our students and our community to the virus. Please see more information and a complete report of these cancellations on our school website under news. As new information is received hourly from the health department and the Governor's office, we will continue to update how the Coronavirus will impact our school district. Thank you very much for your understanding during these next few weeks or months. I can not express how disappointed I am in having to cancel or alter scheduled school events, however, the threat of spreading this illness and the importance of keeping our community healthy is very important. Thank you, Kraig Hissong

Things are really getting sweet around here this week! Administration, better known as Mr. Mint, Princess Lolly, Queen Frostine, and King Kandy, took the kindness cart out for a spin sharing treats with their friends! Staff and students love seeing what joy the kindness cart brings (and maybe a little laughter, too)!

Elementary students have been loving the extra visitors at lunch this month! Grandparents are welcomed to visit with their grandchildren all month long during their lunch! Adult lunches are $4 or you can bring lunch with you. See you there!

It’s literacy week and things are off to a great start! Mrs. Cotrell was the celebrity guest reader in Mrs. Spring/Patton’s class this morning. She read ‘Violet the Pilot’ by Steve Breen. It’s a tale about a young girl who loves to create her own inventions instead of playing with dolls. Thanks, Mrs. Cotrell, for reading to their class!
It’s also literacy spirit week and we have some great themes days planned! Join us in celebrating literacy this week and Thursday evening for Literacy Night!

This week is Literacy Week! Spirit week dress up days: Tues: dress like a nerd. Wed: wear red, white, and blue. Thur: wear blue. Fri: wear colorful clothes. On Thursday, March 12 from 5:30-7:00 pm, we are holding our annual Literacy Night. This year's theme is 'Reading is Sweet' so please join us for an evening of fun activities and games for the whole family. To find out more, watch this Gold Card Video https://youtu.be/ZG1i-pe1ZVU. See you Thursday!

WL-S 6th graders competed at the 22nd annual Triad Classic this weekend and finished Runner Up in Gold Bracket. They defeated Mecanicsburg 38-20, Kenton Ridge 33-29, and Ridgemont 33-14, before falling to Indian Lake 30-19 in the championship game. They will play in their final tournament of the season this weekend at Jackson Center. Good Luck!

The middle school and high school teachers enjoyed a carry in on Friday and got to spend some extra time together! A big thanks goes out to Mr. McGill and Mr. Johnson for helping cover student lunches so teachers could enjoy each other’s company!

High School English students recently wrapped up a writing segment in “Starbucks Mode”!! And after all the papers were turned in, they enjoyed a cafe of their own! They induced in a tasting of 6 different novelty brownies, as well as hot chocolate! Mrs. Phelps, her mother (who provided those decedant brownies), and the kitchen staff helped pull off a really nice treat for a lot of hard work!

Check out what Mrs. Symmat’s class has been up too!

As if Choir isn’t enough fun, middle school Choir students earned their dessert carry-in by earning all of their tally marks for great behavior! There was a chocolate fondue station, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, soda and fruit (but let’s be honest, it was getting dipped in that delectable chocolate fountain). They watched a bit of Ice Age, enjoyed the great snacks and company. They earned it!

WOW! Our little community never ceases to amaze us! Chipotle was packed last night supporting the WL-S Ladies Tigers Track and Field fundraiser! Coaches, teachers, administration, students, athletes, and families packed the house for the duration of the event waiting up to an hour in line just to support our athletes! As always, we appreciate how our community always rallies in support of our students! Thank you for spending your evening with us!
