Key Club is sponsoring Fun Fridays all year, but this week, it was Fun Thursday due to a scheduling conflict. Today one student from each grade level and a surprise staff member were chosen for a pie eating contest, followed by corn hole tournaments and marshmallow toss. Surprise guests included Mr. Johnson and Mr. Jake Vitt. The Fun Fridays take place in the gym during home room time and are sponsored by Key Club. After the extended virtual learning experience they wanted to boost spirits and give HS students a fun activity that involved both students and staff members. The popular event has become something that both students and staff look forward too and will continue indefinitely. Stay tuned for our next Fun Friday event!

“For co-op lineman Mason Shoemaker, coaching is more than wins and losses-it’s about instilling confidence in his young team.”
Mason Shoemaker, Head Coach for West Liberty-Salem Tiger Youth Football program, is not only coaching football, he is choosing to empower young minds for the future. The program ended their seasons with a JV OHC title and Varsity conference runner up.
Shoemaker is featured in this month’s Ohio Cooperative Living Magazine where he discusses how he and his coaching staff have a lot of fun coaching football but also teaching life lessons.

And we would just be remiss to not mention the great costumes worn by our staff today. Deputy J is not in costume, of course, but pretty cool he got to pose with his dad who is a substitute teacher!
And finally, please enjoy our 8th grade and specials teams who used Scrabble letters to perfectly describe the way all of our teachers are heading into this weekend! Have a great evening!

Our Middle School student council challenged their classes to a costume contest and they didn’t disappoint! They also enjoyed homeroom in the gym playing games, and hanging with other witches, ghosts, farmers, and hunters to name a few!
In LA 8th graders wrapped up reading The Outsiders. Traditionally, students dress from one of the rival gangs, the Greasers or the Socs, and it only seemed fitting to tie that in to costume day! Check out all those Greasers!
Enjoy the MS photo album!

There were so many creative costumes with this bunch it was hard to capture them all! The following were stand outs and won special awards:
Most creative: The Harmless Farmers- Sully Cox and Thaddeus Smith
Best Homemade- Britton Carter
Funniest costume- Christopher 'Sully' Herron
Best Student Squad- Deer Hunters- Cam Pope, Caleb Heater, Sam Strapp, Dusty Bolton, and Wyatt Bell
Most Spook-tacular- Kaden Taylor

High school homerooms battled it out this week to be the scariest room on the hall. Judging took place this afternoon and the winner is..........
From Mr. Johnson:
The Homeroom Contest Judging Team of Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Carter and Mr. Johnson (that’s me) want to thank you all for making it a very difficult decision – especially the top three rooms of Neer, Arnold and Cotrell.
The student participation in Mrs. Arnold’s classroom gave her homeroom the slight edge over Cotrell’s homeroom. Neer’s class got some bonus points for the theme, but still fell just short of Cotrell and Arnold.
Mrs. Arnold and class created a haunted graveyard scene.
Congratulations and big thanks to all of our teachers who helped make this possible!

Hey, Jake Vitt, that’s not a costume that’s an actual rabbit! On a leash!
The High School students couldn’t let elementary have all the fun! They had a parade and trick or treating too (but clearly, Jake is confused about who gets the treats!)
Also, have no fear, the halls of West Liberty-Salem are safe with not one but THREE Batmen. The attached link has photos from the parade. Enjoy!

Our annual first grade costume parade was a spooky success today! First graders showed off their costumes and received treat from staff and older students around the school. They visit central office, the gym, some middle school and high school classes and halls! We all just really love seeing the creativity and excitement as they get into character! Thanks for sharing your fun students with us! The attached google link is a sneaky peak at some of the costumes.

This morning, our elementary book buddies kicked off a day of harvest time fun with pumpkin carving! Fourth graders help the first grade carve a pumpkin while working on math related activities! They counted pumpkin seeds and grouped them in tens, worked together to create faces and all ewww’ed at the goopy guts! A big thank you to our fourth graders for helping out today!
