Logan County student United Way delegates participated in the the first of a four part series on living in poverty in Logan County. This morning our seniors Avery Davis, Micha Stoner and junior delegate Abbie Long participated in a poverty simulation experience. The experience allowed students the opportunity to participate in real life challenges like paying the rent or mortgage, utilities, buying groceries, paying for child care, finding and maintaining reliable transportation and maintaining work. They were assigned a family unit, and scenarios related to the three most common causes of poverty, systemic, situational and generational. Scenarios included being a single working parent, a family unable to afford or obtain credit to purchase a car, or a grandparent raising grandchildren on a fixed income to name a few. In each case, they were required to find the resources to fill in the gaps where income failed to provide. In all cases, students found empathy in the struggles and were enlightened by the resources available through #211 and United Way when the proper education is shared in the community. Today’s experience was also open to Logan County business leaders who hope to better relate to employee needs and learn what resources are available to avoid eviction, providIng food for families and keep the utilities turned on. The next poverty simulation experience is March 15 and is open to anyone who may want to attend. Contact United Way for more details.

Stay tuned for weather related cancellations this week. Reminder, all middle school and elementary practices and events are cancelled if there is no school due to inclement weather. Go Tigers!

Team Members: Conner Karg, Kelvin Shank, Taylor Cordell, and Kam Evans and Head Coach Joe Taylor.
The relay team, consisted of all Seniors, and one Junior- Evans. All were four year and three year track participants respectively. During their season, they helped their team take home first place from 3 of their regular season meets, runner up in the league, placed first at the District, fourth at regionals, and then on to state. As a team, they finished seventh at State that year- competing in 5 events with all of these boys competing in multiple events. They broke 4 school records, received 6 individual OHC titles, 4 individual District Championships, and won the regional championship in the 4x4. As a group, they first competed in the 4x4 in their first home meet on April 1 and ran a 3:42.90, about 23 seconds slower than what they would finish at State. Their State Championship run time of 3:19.53 took place in front of 14,000 people at the Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University. That time is the second fastest 4x4 time in DIII state meet history.
