ELA Cafe Now Hiring!

ELA

Fourth graders in Mrs. Johnson and Miss Kale’s ELA classes became employees for a day at the ELA Café.  The classroom was transformed into a restaurant with table cloths, battery operated candles, a welcome sign that said “Now Hiring!”.  The ELA Café was a fun, engaging way to empower students to learn classroom rules, grading expectations and how reading, writing and discussion will all be important this year!  Each new ‘employee’ worked with a partner and used ‘employee handbooks’ to answer questions relevant to their curriculum.  Training stations provided opportunities to learn what will be expected for homework and in class assignments.  Hands on learning experiences, like this one, facilitate better and deeper understanding of what students are learning because the activity is fun!  Our new employees will certainly have a great year!
