West Liberty-Salem Local Schools proudly hosted its Second Annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Tuesday morning, welcoming nearly 200 veterans, active service members, and their families to our campus. The event served as a heartfelt opportunity to honor and thank those who have bravely served in our nation’s armed forces.
The breakfast, organized by the West Liberty-Salem Leadership Council, was led by high school students Bays Lapp, Bella Hughes, Patrick Brooks, Tori Douthwaite, Ava Astorino, and Caleb Larson. Together, the group coordinated event details, helped welcome guests, and ensured the morning reflected the gratitude and pride of the entire WL-S community.
Breakfast was prepared and served by members of the West Liberty-Salem FFA, under the direction of FFA Advisor Mrs. Trista Havens, with guidance and support from Middle School Principal Mr. Andy McGill. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, warm fellowship, and a special performance by our second graders.
This year’s guest speaker, Retired Lt. Col. Jason Douthwaite, delivered an inspiring message that emphasized the values of service, sacrifice, and leadership. His words resonated deeply with attendees, reminding all present of the importance of honoring those who protect and serve our country.
West Liberty-Salem is proud to continue this tradition as a way to bring students, staff, and community members together in gratitude and unity.
“Events like this remind our students that freedom comes from the courage of others,” said one organizer. “It’s an honor to celebrate those who have given so much.”
Special Thanks to our generous donors from LeVan's Excavating, ColePak, and Malia Hughes with MKH Holdings.
