GEOBEE

West Liberty-Salem held the annual Middle School National Geographic Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 11th.  Nine students in grades fifth through eighth earned spots in the Geo Bee after being selected as top competitors against members of their individual classes.  Judges included teachers Mr. Barhorst, Mr. Clapp, Mrs. Orahood, and Geo Bee coordinator Mr. Miller.  The National Geographic Geo Bee is in it’s 31st year and awards students from all over the country with scholarships and other opportunities for winners at the regional and state level.  Caleb Hershberger, 7th grader, was this years champion, and Kendall LeVan was the runner up in the 7th round of tough questions.  Hershberger will complete in an online qualifying test that is submitted to the National Geographic Society to determine his eligibility to compete at the state level.  Congratulations to all of our participants, and good luck to Caleb as he goes on to compete at the regional level!
