The West Liberty-Salem Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce its 2026 Class of Inductees.

This year’s class honors the accomplishments of the 2010 Division III State Runner-Up Softball Team, Coach Ann Vogel, and athlete Jamie Peterson. 

Team: 2010 State Runner Up Softball Team

The 2010 West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers Softball Team put together one of the most memorable seasons in program history, finishing as Division III State Runner-Up with an overall record of 27-4 and a perfect 14-0 mark in OHC play. The team also captured its 7th consecutive OHC Championship during the remarkable season.

On their tournament run to the state finals, the Lady Tigers defeated Archbold, 3-2, in the state semifinals before facing Jeromesville Hillsdale, a six-time state champion, in the championship game. After a rain delay pushed the game to Sunday, the Tigers battled in a hard-fought contest before falling 2-1 in the state finals.

The team earned the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Wendy’s Classic, an invitational reserved for previous state champions and state finalists, where they finished 2-1, including a victory over the defending Division II state champion.

The Lady Tigers finished the season with an impressive team batting average of .433 while outscoring opponents 311-49.

The roster included Alyssa Neff, Emily Detwiler, Abbey Ledford, Becka Peterson, Kaitlyn Kite, Andrea Markin, Kate Detwiler, Jordan Adams, Melany Ward, Courtney Milliron, Alexis Smith, and Addie Kendall.

Individually, Abbey Ledford earned 1st Team All-State honors, while Becka Peterson was named 2nd Team All-State. First Team OHC selections included Abbey Ledford, Becka Peterson, Kaitlyn Kite, Emily Detwiler, Kate Detwiler, Andrea Markin, and Alyssa Neff.

The team was led by Head Coach Lanay Cordell, along with assistant coaches Dennis McIntosh and Jill Titus.

Ann Vogel dedicated more than three decades to West Liberty-Salem, establishing herself as one of the most accomplished and respected coaches in school history. As the leader of the Tiger cross country and track and field programs, she built a culture defined by hard work, perseverance, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence that became the standard for generations of student-athletes.

During her remarkable coaching career, Vogel guided her teams to three OHSAA State Championships, two in girls track and field and one in girls cross country and added a state runner-up finish in cross country in 2019. Her programs dominated the Ohio Heritage Conference, capturing 20 league championships in track and field and an astounding 25 conference titles in cross country. Under her leadership, West Liberty-Salem also claimed five district championships and two regional titles in track and field, along with 10 district championships and nine regional championships in cross country.

While the championships and trophies speak to the success of her programs, Ann’s greatest legacy lies in the countless lives she influenced. She believed in developing the whole athlete, emphasizing the importance of mental health, healthy nutrition, positive lifestyle choices, and maintaining balance beyond competition. Her athletes learned not only how to compete at the highest level, but also how to lead, persevere, and support one another.

Known for her unwavering dedication, compassion, and ability to inspire others, Coach Vogel created an environment where student-athletes felt valued and challenged to become the best versions of themselves. Many of her former athletes have gone on to become coaches, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders, carrying forward the lessons she instilled.

Ann Vogel’s impact on West Liberty-Salem extends far beyond records and championships. Her influence can be measured in the generations of Tigers she mentored and in the enduring tradition of excellence she established. Through her leadership, passion, and genuine care for her athletes, she helped shape one of the premier cross country and track and field programs in Ohio and left a legacy that continues to define West Liberty-Salem athletics.

Jamie Peterson - Class of 2015 - Athlete

Jamie Peterson is one of the most accomplished student-athletes in West Liberty-Salem history, excelling at the highest levels in both volleyball and basketball before continuing her success collegiately at the University of Dayton.

In volleyball, Jamie was a four-year varsity MVP for the Tigers and earned OHC First Team honors in 2013, 2014, and 2015. She was named OHC Player of the Year in 2015 and earned numerous postseason honors, including All Southwest District 9 First Team, District Player of the Year, Senior All-Star honors, and First Team OHSVCA All-Ohio in 2015 after receiving Honorable Mention All-Ohio recognition in 2014. She was also selected as a 2015 Under Armour All-American and was ranked #73 nationally in Prep Volleyball’s Top 100 Aces.

Jamie finished her high school volleyball career as the all-time leader in kills for the State of Ohio in a single season with 530 and ranked 10th overall in state history for career kills with 1,582. She also recorded 99 career service aces.

At University of Dayton, Jamie continued to dominate, finishing 7th in program history in career kills with 1,471. She was a three-time Atlantic 10 First Team selection and A-10 Player of the Year in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Additional collegiate honors included A-10 Rookie of the Week (five times), A-10 All-Championship Team and Most Outstanding Player honors, AVCA Midwest Region First Team recognition, AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors, and Volleyball Magazine All-American 4th Team honors. Nationally, she ranked among NCAA Division I leaders in aces, points, and kills per set during the 2021 season.

In basketball, Jamie helped lead West Liberty-Salem to the second district title in school history and earned Team MVP honors. She was named First Team All-Ohio in 2016, participated in the North/South State All-Star Game, and earned First Team All-OHC honors in both 2015 and 2016. Jamie was also named OHC Player of the Year in 2016 after averaging 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game. She totaled 1,109 career points and set a new school record for career rebounds in 2016. Jamie also earned multiple All-Area honors from the Bellefontaine Examiner.

Induction Events

The 2026 Hall of Fame Class will be formally honored on Friday, October 2nd, between first and second quarters of the home varsity football game against Northeastern.

The celebration will continue with a formal Induction Ceremony and Banquet on Saturday, October 3rd, at the Tiger Strong Fieldhouse.

This year’s Hall of Fame class embodies the very best of what it means to be a Tiger; dedication, perseverance, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to others. From the championship legacy of the 2010 Softball Team to the decades of excellence and mentorship provided by Coach Ann Vogel, to the remarkable accomplishments and lasting impact of Jamie Peterson, each inductee has left an indelible mark on West Liberty-Salem athletics. Their achievements and contributions have helped shape the proud tradition of Tiger athletics and continue to inspire future generations of student-athletes.
