MIDDLE SCHOOL 

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK!: It’s staff appreciation week – please take the time to thank staff members (teachers, nurse’s, parapros, bus drivers, kitchen, custodial, office) that have had a positive impact on you or to show your appreciation for all they do.  I’m sure they would appreciate it!

GOT FEES?:  Remember fees are due in 3 weeks (5/17) or all accounts will be locked and grade cards held. 

Email Mrs. Nieman if you need to inquire about your balance.

ELECTIONS:  8th grade students interested in Class Officer and Student Council positions in HS should sign up in Mrs. Arnold’s room by Wednesday.

CURRENT 7TH GRADE STUDENTS:  If you are interested in being a WEB leader for the 2024-25 school year, please pick up an application outside Mrs. Milliron's room.  Applications will be due on May 10th by 3:00 pm 

SPORTS

FOOTBALL:  8th graders - There will be an informational meeting and sign up for anyone interested in playing high school football next season in

Mr Stapleton’s room on Wednesday, May 8th during homeroom.  Please there by 11:10.  We will pass out calendars and talk about the schedule as well.

WEIGHT ROOM:  Any student using the weight room after school must be accompanied by a board approved chaperone (coach, teacher, or administrator).  Weight room hours are 3-4:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for any high school student.  It is closed to students on Wednesday unless accompanied by your specific coach.

NHS:  Reminder: NHS hours are now past due. Please turn in the service hours form ASAP to Mrs. Neer!!

SENIORS:  As your time here at WL-S comes to an end, just a couple of things we need to go over. If you are going to buy your iPad,

please make payment to Mrs. Nieman in the front office. 

·      If you have any documents or pictures you want to keep, please see Rich and he will show you how to save them.

·      Your iPad will be wiped clean and given back to you after your graduation ceremony (5/26).

·      The cost to buy your iPad is $100.00.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rich.

HS COUNSELING OFFICE

Attention CCP Students:  Caleb Means with Edison State will be at WL-S on May 7th.  He will be administering the Accuplacer for any students who need this placement test in order to take requested classes for next school year.  Mrs. Smith will communicate in advance to any/all students required to test.  Also, Mr. Means will have office hours in the Mac Lab/Media Center during most of the day. Please sign up to meet with him if you have questions about your classes. IF YOU STILL NEED TO REGISTER FOR ONLINE COURSES FOR SUMMER OR NEXT FALL, YOU MUST SCHEDULE A TIME TO MEET WITH HIM.  Sign-up will be posted outside the HS Counseling Office.

YMCA JOB:  The Champaign County YMCA is hosting Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Classes May 13, 14, 16 & 17.  If you are interested, please see the flyer posted outside the HS Counseling Office.

SPORTS

FOOTBALL:  There will an informational meeting for all those interested in playing football next fall on Monday, May 6th during your homeroom time.  Come to Coach McGill’s room shortly after attendance.  We will pass out calendars and go over a couple important dates.

GIRLS TRACK:  The West Liberty-Salem varsity girls track and field team placed fourth in the highly competitive West Liberty-Salem. Tiger Invitational.

Team Scores:  1st Bellefontaine 142.5, 2nd Versailles 104, 3rd Ben Logan103, 4th WLS 101, 5th Botkins 67, 6th Anna 65.5. 7th North Union 40, 8th Lehman Catholic 38, 9th WLS B Team 3, 10th Bethel 1.

Delaney Jones led the Tigers with a first place finish in the 100 Meter Dash.  Her time of 12.14 is a new Tiger Stadium record.

Placing second for WLS were Elise Longshore in pole vault (10'0) and the 4x800 meter relay team of Malia Miller, Addie McAuley, Ashley Yoder and Mallory Bostick (9:53.96) and the 4x100 relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Delaney Jones, Gwen McCullough and Chloe Griffith (50.19).

Third place finishers included Malia Miller in the 1600 Meter Run (5:30.06) and the 3200 Meter Run (11:45.41), the 4x200 Meter Relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Hattie Jacobs, Claire Longshore and Gwen McCullough (1:51.40) and the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Ashley Yoder, Gwen McCullough, Delaney Jones and Mallory Bostick (4:13.79).

Claire Longshore chipped in two fourth place finishes in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.52) and the 300 Meter Hurdles (49.18).  Also placing fourth were Chloe Griffith in the 100 Meter Dash (12.86), Mallory Bostick in the 400 Meter Dash (1:03.93) and Gwen McCullough in the 800 Meter Run (2:30.21).

Seventh place finishers included Addie McAuley in the 800 Meter Run (2:33.6) and Lyndee Harrison in the shot put (28'10.5), and Alaina Irving placed eighth in the 100 Meter Hurdles (17.01).

The WLS B team saw the 4x800 relay team of Lily Smith, Mariska Smith, Mylee Dooley and Taylor Kennedy place seventh (11:25.77) and the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Lily Smith, Emma Smith, Mariska Smith and Taylor Kennedy place eighth (4:56.87)

West Liberty-Salem will host the Ohio Heritage Conference Championships Monday, May 6th and Thursday, May 9th.

BOYS TRACK:  The West Liberty-Salem boys track team competed Friday at their home invitational sponsored by Reliant Mechanical.

The team was 1st out of 10 teams:  Top 5 scoring: WL-S  143.33, Versailles 104, Bellefontaine  91.5, Ben Logan 88.83, Anna 73.33

Jack Bahan was named the Reliant Invitational’s male most valuable Athlete.  His 100m effort (11.14) broke Jace Wade’s school record (11.22) set in 2021.

The team will compete Monday at Day 1 of the Ohio Heritage Conference Championships hosted at West Liberty-Salem.
