IAT PROCESS

IAT (Intervention Assistance Team) is for the student (not on an IEP or 504) who is struggling academically, socially, psychologically and/or physically. Students can be referred to the process by a teacher or parent once interventions have been utilized and documented. The team (consists of the School Counselor, School Psychologist, Referring Teacher (or teacher of the class that the child is struggling with), Special Education Supervisor, two middle school teachers, and two high school teachers. The initial meeting is held with the child's teacher and the Intervention Assistance Team to develop additional interventions to be incorporated in the classroom and documented prior to the following meeting (roughly six weeks). At that time, parents are invited to attend the meeting to hear the results of the interventions. The team then decides whether to pursue additional interventions or maintain the current interventions that have been successful. The student can be a part of the IAT process at any time. NOTE: The purpose of this team is not to identify and test students for special education services but rather to brainstorm and implement additional supports for the purpose of academic success.

If you want to refer your middle school student to IAT, please contact Mr. Matt Westfall (Elementary/Middle School Counselor). If you want to refer your high school student to the process, please contact Mrs. Molly Smith.
