The West Liberty-Salem Chapter of The National Honor Society inducted 30 new members on Wednesday, December 6th. The new members include three seniors and 27 juniors.
Lillian Weaver presided as the Master of Ceremony, and the theme was, “Fireworks.” President Madeline Cole offered the opening remarks with words encouraging members to challenge their character to be honest, willing to serve, and willing to lead, “when others around you need a leader.” Her words were meant to inspire our students to “be a light in a dark room,” a quote she shared from her father.
Next, the Four core values of the National Honor Society were presented by current NHS Members. The core values are integral in the selection of new members. The values are leadership, introduced by Abigail Miller, Scholarship, introduced by Veronica Wall, Service, introduced by Carter Titus, and Character, introduced by Addison McAuley. Members shared examples of how those core values are used by leaders to inspire change and responsibility.
Senior member Abby Guest introduced the 30 new members of the NHS, while Ivy Cline and Lily Smith presented their Gold Cords and certificates. The Gold Cords will be worn again at graduation to symbolize membership.
Principal Greg Johnson closed the meeting by challenging inductees and present members to use The National Honor Society, along with the many other organizations students are involved in, to advance themselves and their organization in the four pillars of NHS. “See where you can take yourself while in and beyond high school,” Johnson challenged, asking them to go above what they are called to do and see what is possible. The ceremony commenced with a reception of light refreshments hosted by Mallory Bostick, Joey LaRoche, Abigail Miller, Ashley Yoder.
