West Liberty-Salem Key Club hosted it’s first annual Empty Bowls community benefit dinner, Saturday, 2/2/19, in the high school cafetorium. The benefit raised a grand total of $742 for West Liberty Cares Food Pantry and The Caring Kitchen in Urbana. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger and homelessness, but is personalized on a community level.
The menu included chili or chicken noodle soup, salad, dinner roll, and bottle water, all of which were organized and donated through the hard work of Key Club students. Leading up the big event, they held bake sales, prepared and delivered donation letters to local businesses, prepared a power point presentation highlighting local poverty and homelessness statistics, made flyers and publicized the event and volunteered their time serving and cleaning.
WL-S extends a huge congratulations to this dedicated group of students for a successful first year, and making a difference in our local community.
