West Liberty-Salem Local School District

Ohio is experiencing great change over the next few years.  There have been new standards adopted by Ohio in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.  Local districts are beginning the transition in these subject areas at various paces across K-12.  In addition, there will be newly developed state assessments that will replace the current OAA and OGT tests.  The state of Ohio has joined the PARCC consortium.  PARCC is working to develop the English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments that are anticipated in 2014 - 2015.  Assessments will include Performance Based Tasks and Summative Assessments.

Ohio is working to develop Science and Social Studies assessments that will be similar to the PARCC assessments and will also begin in the 2014-2015 school year.  All state assessments will incorporate computer based testing.

It has recently been announced that the new state assessments will include the following grade level/subject areas:

3rd grade - Eng. Lang Arts and Math

4th grade - Eng. Lang Arts, Math, and S. Studies

5th grade - Eng. Lang Arts, Math, and Science

6th grade - Eng. Lang Arts, Math, and S. Studies

7th grade - Eng. Lang Arts and Math

8th grade - Eng. Lang Arts, Math, and Science

HS - Ohio developed End-of-Course exams in the following areas:

                     English 9, 10, and 11

Math - Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2

Science - Physical Science and Biology

                     S. Studies - American History and American Govt

In High School there will also be a College/Career Readiness Exam that is expected to be in a student's 10th grade year.  Specifics as to what this will include, how it will be formatted, etc... have not been publicly shared.
